View Full Version : Bad WRX—The Final, Final Chapter
Spa2K 10-16-2001, 12:15 AM Oops, I did it again!
Bad WRX, my '02 silver WRX sedan, has been replaced—by a new '02 silver WRX sedan. From both my standpoint and the dealer's standpoint, this was a far better solution than playing Lemon Law games.
Either I have rocks in my head (or worse), or I trusted the majority of you who said that your WRXs were worthy of love and affection—and that your cars were relatively trouble-free.
With Bad WRX, I was at the dealer on the fourth day of ownership—ready to give the car back. After four days with WRX v.2, I have no problems to report. (And I'm sure I'll stop holding my breath any minute now.) ;)
WRX v.2 was built at least two months after Bad WRX, and the VINs are about 5,500 apart. Here's the best way I can describe the differences between the two cars: The shifter in WRX v.2 is almost Miata-like; the shifter in Bad WRX felt like breaking off a chicken bone. That difference applies to both cars overall too.
Now all I have to do is survive my second WRX break-in period in 10 weeks... :(
Valien 10-16-2001, 12:33 AM hey! congrats again! :)
I really really hope this car does well for you! Tis a shame you got the uber-lemon WRX. :(
I've had my WRX for 1 week so far and it's been a blast and no troubles at all.
have fun with the breakin. :)

Coati 10-16-2001, 12:34 AM Yaaaaaay! Congrats and welcome back. Looks like it's time for the re-birth of the break-in support thread. Remember, you can do it!:D
ChrisW 10-16-2001, 12:37 AM Spa2k,
glad to see you hung in there. I am sure you that you will only be disapointed because you have to break in a second WRX:)
Be sure to get better tires ASAP. The Re92s don't deserve to be on the car, they can be down right dangerous. You have a 1000 miles to think about it.
enjoy your subie!

I had RE-92s on my Legacy GT wagon, so I'm already familiar with the need to hate them. ;) First come Blizzaks for the winter, then 17-inchers next spring.

Get the kartboy shifter bushings. They are on my "must have" mod list. They make the shifter feel much better(not that the stock shifter was that bad). The bushings only cost ~$35 and take the slop out of the shifter and make the shifter feel notchier.
Plus it's a mod you can do before the 1000 mile break in period :)
TheWRX 10-16-2001, 01:21 AM Glad to hear that you'll be staying here, and good luck with WRX v.2! You deserve it after your struggles with Bad WRX, I can't even imagine how frustrating that experience must have been. While mine isn't Perfect WRX (waiting for call from dealer), it doesn't even come close to Bad WRX. Even though some WRXes seem to have a few issues, there really isn't a good alternative unless you're willing to spend almost twice as much on a car.
porky 10-16-2001, 01:37 AM Yippee
2nd time is the charm!
Welcome back into the fold
Albert 10-16-2001, 01:37 AM What did the dealer do with the first car?
I hope they don't sell it as a "demo" used car and stick it to the next person:(
WRSport 10-16-2001, 02:26 AM LOL. Ofcourse thats whats going to be done.
They will say their "sales manager" drove it around for 6 months and its a perfect car.
Wheels 10-16-2001, 02:42 AM Glad for you. I'll never get a replacement. My WRX has been abused by all but me. I`ve had problems galoure and no hope in hell of getting them fixed. I have a poor WRX and nothing I can do about it.
I`m not even going to say whats wrong with mine I get so depressed. I love my car but it brings tears to my eyes thinking of how badly other people treated my wrx.

Wheels, I feel for you... I'll never let anyone else drive my car again after this (http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67161&highlight=feeling+dangerous)
COwannago 10-16-2001, 03:16 AM It brings tears to my eyes seeing how many paint chips there are on the front of my car. I cry a lot.
Nick C.
P.S. What's the deal with the paint.
Kostamojen 10-16-2001, 03:47 AM Woo! Go lemon laws!

Oh, man—Now you're going to make me say something nice about Bad WRX. In 2,700 miles, I never picked up a single chip in the paint (except the ones that were "installed" when the new windshield was put in). I hate to admit this, but I modified my driving style a little bit to include increasing my following distance on the highway. If someone cuts in front of me, I change lanes.

Front brake rotors, pads and a new trunk lock were sitting on the shelf waiting for the car's return; other parts were still on order. I assume the dealer is going to fix it and bring it up to Subaru's "standards" before it goes on the used car lot.
Maybe the dealer should have a contest: First Prize is a Pontiac Aztek; second prize is Bad WRX.
jk147 10-16-2001, 11:07 AM hey congrats man!
I am glad that you are back at the Subaru family.
Stanley 10-16-2001, 03:05 PM Maybe Bad WRX was a beta version?
SupaSizeFries 10-16-2001, 07:11 PM I've had my Rex for about 8800 miles now and the only prob I had was a leaky windshield washer hose.
ryball 10-16-2001, 07:21 PM Glad to hear you stuck with Subbie's! I followed your other thread and it seemed like hell. I am pushing 2300 miles at one month and am (knock on wood) having no problems.
Good Luck!!!
