I got into my car this morning and my sterring was all messed up when I would be off the gas, coasting around a turn, I had to use ALOT of stength to turn the wheel, I though it might be the cold, but by the time I got to work it was still like that. I could not turn the car into the parking space without using both hands with alot of force.
Has any one else experienced this complete loss of power stering when no power/gas is being applied ? I would love to know, I am bringing the car to the dealer today and would love to have som info going in.
Otherwise I will let everyone else know what happens at the dealers.
Have you check your Power steering fluid level? I know at least one WRX member have loss fluid in an autocross event. It was due to a lossen power steering hose. How about the tension on the Steering pump belt?
I have also heard that the WRX steering is speed sensitive, so there might be a chance for a electrical problem, such as bad sensor?? However I am not completely sure about the speed sensitive steering.
Get it to the dealer as soon as possible.

I wisj I had the time ti check that stuff myself, or the knowledge of where to look and what to look for. In my mind that is what the dealer is supposed to do, thanks for the info though

Well the dealership came through in flying colors. They said that most likely the problem was a bad/blown power steering pump. When they looked up if their were parts available and found none in the states, which meant about two weeks to ship them from Japan, they told me they are going to take the pump out of one of the new WRX's in their wharehouse and put it in mine. Plus they gave me a Forrester to drive until the job is done.
The dealership is Nashua Subaru in New Hampshire if anyone was wondering.
Hi ZMANNH25rs, I think you should ask the mechanic at the shop to save the damage pump, and see if you can have a look of what gone wrong with it. Was it a manufactuing defect on material? or is it a due to inproper installation. Make sure you got a receipt for the repair for further followup.
Good luck
