My tires are in desperate need of a cleaning. They are turning the ugly brown. My rims are alright, but I cant get to some of the edges. What products should I use on both?

Try Westley's Bleach White on the tires. It also works well on wheels. If you REALLY want to clean the wheels though, jack the car up and take them off. Makes it soo much easier, you can also scrub the calipers while you are at it.

For the ultimate in tire cleaning, try Simple Green. This stuff sprays on as a foam and it will get EVERYTHING off of the tires down to the rubber. This is a great way to make your tires look brand new. A bit of scrubbing is necessary. Good luck!

To keep them from turning brown once they are clean, do not use any silicone based product such as Armor All. There are a number of better options. :)

simple green works great on tires and the wheels, simple green devours brake dust and grease on tires...

but still dishwashing liquid and hot water works wonders :D

Don't know about the rest of those products, but Westley's will keep future brake dust from sticking to the wheels. Just wipe with a dry rag and they're clean again.

Don't Armorall the tires if you want to keep them from turning brown.

Not only will Armor All make your tires turn brown, it'll cause major cracking. :eek:

Can i use Westley's with OZ rims. I heard i can't clean them with anything too abrasive because it will ruin the finish. What do you guys think. Thanks.

Westley's, where can I get this? And what is the product called: "Westley's Bleach White" ? Man, thats a harsh sounding name.

Simple Green, I've never used this, but have seen it everywhere. Do they make a product specifically for tires and rims? Or is there a product used for everything? Whats it called?

Simple Green is just an engine degreaser. But it works good for wheels too.

You should be able to get it at any auto parts store in the tire cleaner section.

It's gnarly stuff though. Don't get it in any cuts. Don't get it in your eyes.

The directions say to not get it on the wheels. But it also instructs you to put it on dry tires.

We used it at Maaco when I did detailing there eons ago (you'll never forget the smell and feel of the stuff after you get it in cuts on your hands).

At Maaco we had it in a diluted solution of water, in a spray bottle... spray it on, scrub with a wet soft bristled brush, and boom. Good to go.

At home, I make sure the wheels and tires are WET. And I take them off the car. If the wheels aren't wet, or if you let it sit on them for too long, it WILL ETCH the finish of your wheels. I spray it on full strength (you'll see brown stuff running off the rubber as you spray, it's that good), let it sit for 30 seconds or a minute, then wipe it off with a wash mitt. The tires I scrub with a sponge or terrycloth rag. Then rinse and rinse well.

When brake dust builds up again, usually it will wipe right off with a dry cloth.

Again. This is some NASTY stuff and I use it against their directions. Follow my advice at your own risk.
