My 1995 legacy Wagon (2.2 ltr) CEL flashed today quickly and now is constantly on. How do I pull the error code using the CEL as a counter?
Also any website that lists the error codes? I can call the dealer if I have too no problem when I find the error code #.
Thanks for your help.

You can't. Any car with OBDII requires a scan tool to retrieve codes or clear them. Previous to '95 the codes could be read through the light on the dash.

Ok thanks, I guess it has to go to the dealer or maybe I can find a OBDII scan tool somewhere at resonable cost so I can scan it myself. Being very mechanically inclined I would rather do the scan and repair on my own.
Thanks for the help!!

Dealer says my 1995 Legacy is a OBD1 compliant vehicle. Not a OBD2. So how do I pull the error codes using the check engine light? dealer says the purge control valve is a possible failure but that is just a guess on thier part.
any info appreciated!

I would definitely consider using a different dealer for service. 1995 Legacys are OBDII.

Well on the OBD2 webpage the 1955 legacy Wagon is only OBD2 in automatic tranny only! The MT tranny 1995 Legacy says ODB1.
So who is correct?
I guess I'll look at the under hood decal and see what it says. The emissions decal should tell me what it is.
thanks for all the help and info.

Now to find out where the error codes are listed. I bought this Legacy used so I don't have a repair manual for it to look up the error codes.

The only differance between OBDII and OBDI is Enhanced Evaporative Emissions on OBDII. Code reading and retrieval is the same for both.

gpd323, I have a '95 Legacy L manual wagon and it's OBDII. And, even though it's never been within 2,500 miles of CA since it was manufactured, it's CARB-certified. I guess it's possible that Subaru made some non-CARB '95 Legacys, and those wouldn't have to be OBDII-compliant. But you're absolutely right about checking the sticker underneath the hood for conclusive evidence.

The under hood EPA sticker does indeed say the 1995 Legacy is a OBD2 compliant emissions vehicle. There is someone near me that has the data software and error code stuff to see what the code is. So hopefully I can get this done soon and order the correct part and or fix.
Thanks,

BTW, how many cars do you have in your stable? I see four listed under your name when you post, but none of them is a '95 Legacy.
