My rex has only 2500 miles on it and it has a weird rattle while decreasing under engine compression (not using brakes) in 3rd and sometimes in 2nd, especially with mid-high reves like 4k+.

I suspect a heat shield or similiar, but don't know - this is my first Subie.

thx in advance.

This is a common problem with the WRX, you will find a lot of discussion of it if you a search, mainly in the retired WRX forum. I just started a new thread with my latest "insights" on the "Warranty Issues & SOA Problems" forum today, it's titled "WRX deceleration noise update".

It is the turbo heat shield...if you do not like the noise...just remove it!

I had the same problem, only it was the heat shield where the headers join. Removing it wasn't necessary, some small rocks got in there and just need to be taken out.
