Yea, I know nice dream but seriously, I think it would be great if Subaru produced an AWD convertible sports car to compete with the Boxster, BMW Z3 M ed., and forth coming new Miata.

JGard 10-17-2001, 03:33 PM would be interesting... but tough for a company like Subaru to try to burst in on that market. As for the WRX, uh uh, not gonna happen :) Maybe that's the niche the ST-X will fill... WindyWRX 10-17-2001, 04:14 PM I agree, the WRX seems to have too much of a race car mentality to have a convertible model. but boy, now that you mention it....... DanzBorin 10-17-2001, 05:55 PM Convertible=Bye, bye stiffness... Plus how many convertible sedans are there? (Good looking one's at least) :D Plus have you heard the m3 convertible reviews? They say it pales in comparison to the regular sedan because of the increased body flex. Just my 3 cents Samirr76 10-17-2001, 06:10 PM It would probably be called the SVX convertible. Supposedly there is a SVX (Impreza based) 2 door on the way, a convertible isnt unlikely. Pollux 10-17-2001, 09:30 PM That won't happen. ST-X will be as close as it will get. But I'm already saving for an new age SVX. 2 doors, 6 speed transmission, turbo power, AWD and much more! wouhou dreaming... S. Seeing StaRS 10-18-2001, 12:31 AM Subaru's rally heritage and convertible just dont seem to go together. As everyone has already pointed out, convertibles have mad body flex. In a related note that is part of the reasoning behind the absence of a sunroof in the WRX. It would have interfered with the roll cage design of the passenger compartment and contributed to flex. phantasm 10-18-2001, 12:47 AM Could it be true? ;) Billy 10-18-2001, 01:47 AM The weird part about that is that a rear wing would look out of place on a ragtop. mcu81 10-18-2001, 02:09 AM grat photochop and i think it looks cool rogue 10-18-2001, 12:06 PM *spits cookie bits on his keyboard* Let's not go photochopping the tops off our cars, shall we? :p whtstr 10-18-2001, 03:34 PM that photochop is a masterpiece! i think it will look awesome after some slide modifications on the exterior phantasm 10-18-2001, 07:01 PM Scary thing is that i bet 10 to 1 that within a couple years someone will have actually done this like people are doing with the new VW beetles. SubEd 10-18-2001, 07:30 PM Quick! That STi is on fire (and I don't mean Icey Hot)!!!! Ed  rsholland 10-18-2001, 09:01 PM A 4-door WRX ragtop! That's interesting.... Shades of the old '61 Lincoln Continental 4-door convertible. Bob fanatic 10-18-2001, 09:01 PM phantasm, I think that photoshopped vert. looks pretty good, just fix it up a little T-WRX-02 10-18-2001, 10:47 PM phantasm: Looks good! Remove the rear doors and head rests ... I'd buy it! You'd think with the return popularity of sporty convertibles (BMW's, Mercedes, Mitsubishi Spyder, etc.) Subaru would take the cue and make a ragtop. Take a few thousand RS's and send them to a top chop shop (like GM does to make their convertibles) and ... voila ! ... an affordable AWD convertible. To keep the body torsional rigidity, I imagine a two door configuration would be necessary. Add four O.Z. 18" wheels, Pirelli or Kumho 40 profile tires, a better sounding exhaust system, and some minor trim and ground effects ... Hmmmm. zabutter 10-19-2001, 12:54 AM Send that pic to SOAa....Tell em if they build it, it will sell! Slvrblt 10-19-2001, 02:12 AM yeah nice pic, but I don't think I would want one, for one reason is convertibles are hot in summer and cold in winter, plus like I saw- say bye bye to rigidity baby, but if you want style over function sure why the hell not I'll keep the roof on mine thanks speed safely Brian  SCOOBYSHAG 10-19-2001, 01:23 PM Hey...re-photochop it but make it a 2-door with no rear seats and a rear deck lid spoiler. That might look better.. Freak Show 10-19-2001, 01:25 PM I liked the photo shop of the two door hatch back WRX. It had the front end of the sedan and a wagon rear end with.http://www.gifs.net/animate/spacedog.gif Eric SS 10-19-2001, 06:08 PM I think it's been like 40 years since there was a 4-dr conv. :) Eric |
