Yea, I know nice dream but seriously, I think it would be great if Subaru produced an AWD convertible sports car to compete with the Boxster, BMW Z3 M ed., and forth coming new Miata.

would be interesting... but tough for a company like Subaru to try to burst in on that market.

As for the WRX, uh uh, not gonna happen :) Maybe that's the niche the ST-X will fill...

I agree, the WRX seems to have too much of a race car mentality to have a convertible model.

Plus have you heard the m3 convertible reviews? They say it pales in comparison to the regular sedan because of the increased body flex.

It would probably be called the SVX convertible. Supposedly there is a SVX (Impreza based) 2 door on the way, a convertible isnt unlikely.

That won't happen. ST-X will be as close as it will get. But I'm already saving for an new age SVX. 2 doors, 6 speed transmission, turbo power, AWD and much more! wouhou dreaming...

Subaru's rally heritage and convertible just dont seem to go together. As everyone has already pointed out, convertibles have mad body flex. In a related note that is part of the reasoning behind the absence of a sunroof in the WRX. It would have interfered with the roll cage design of the passenger compartment and contributed to flex.

The weird part about that is that a rear wing would look out of place on a ragtop.

You'd think with the return popularity of sporty convertibles (BMW's, Mercedes, Mitsubishi Spyder, etc.) Subaru would take the cue and make a ragtop. Take a few thousand RS's and send them to a top chop shop (like GM does to make their convertibles) and ... voila ! ... an affordable AWD convertible. To keep the body torsional rigidity, I imagine a two door configuration would be necessary. Add four O.Z. 18" wheels, Pirelli or Kumho 40 profile tires, a better sounding exhaust system, and some minor trim and ground effects ... Hmmmm.:eek:

yeah nice pic, but I don't think I would want one, for one reason is convertibles are hot in summer and cold in winter, plus like I saw- say bye bye to rigidity baby, but if you want style over function sure why the hell not

I liked the photo shop of the two door hatch back WRX. It had the front end of the sedan and a wagon rear end with.http://www.gifs.net/animate/spacedog.gif

I think it's been like 40 years since there was a 4-dr conv. :)
