I was a little skeptical about this product at first because of it's scarcity on i-club but I'm glad I went and plunked down the $100 for it. Thanks to Adam at Z-1 for the prompt service and great product.

First off, it was a bear to pop the shifter back into the socket! That is until I took the shift boot plate off and pulled the connecting rod up enough to reassemble the shifter on top of the socket. Then I just put the old shift knob on and "persuaded" it with an old cell bio text book I had laying around (dont ask). Rather than dealing with the connecting rod bashing into the boot plate, I took it off, bent the tabs up about 35 degrees, rotated the plate 180 degrees around the shift lever and screwed it back down. No rattles what-so-ever.

Secondly, performance: Although I can't quantify how much it has reduced throw, it feels like an inch has been lopped off the throw in every gear. I'm really kicking myself for not measuring before and after shift throw.:mad:
Even so, it feels like a 30-40% reduction in throw as Adam claimed. I'm waiting until this weekend to tackle the Kartboy bushings, I can't wait.

Oh, I also topped the shifter with the Momo Race Air Leather shifter knob. It feels very secure and really complements the steering wheel.

Ha, ha! I used the same "textbook" technique with my Kartboy. Works like a charm :D

Do the bushings soon. I just did it last night, and it makes a world of a difference. They add a bit a gear whine though.

I heard the shifter hits the plate that is there. Does your do that?

I put my BPM in a couple of months ago and absolutely love it. Shorter throws, just the right notchiness. I topped mine with a Race Airleather knob too. Adam at Z1 is great to deal with.

supermarkus - let me know whether the bushings make a difference. When I talked to Adam about it, he felt they really weren't necessary. The install sounds like a PITA so I haven't done it yet.

redobs - yes, I had that problem. It's not the shifter itself but the bar that bolts to it. I think the height (from the plastic cup under the shifter to where the bolt is) must be greater with the BPM, because it made the crossbar rub against the shifter-surround plate. It was a problem in 1st and 3rd gears. I solved it by just bending the plate up in that one area. Other have just flipped the surround plate 180 degrees. Both seem to work fine.

Whoa, I have the same knob and shifter combo :D. Popping it back in is definetly irritating, at least until you stop fearing the kind of pressure needed! I used a piece of wood and 10 pound dumbell *grin*. Rather then bend the frame up, I filed some of the underside away. Looks totally stock from the top, but it took forever. I do not recommend doing this for anyone else :D.

BTW, isn't the build on that thing awesome?
