did some searching but did not find any setup answers. i am currently "stage 2" w/ my utec setup on stock turbo running 17 lbs boost. i have the smc meth kit on the way. my plan is to make another map for the utec, of course protuned, and be able to switch maps on the fly and turn on the meth for the appropriate map. my main question is do i need anything else for this setup? do i need an electronic boost controller so i will also be able to run more boost w/ my meth map. thanks for your help guys.

Maybe a GM boost solenoid, Prodrive, or Perrin... All pretty much the same thing.

can you elaborate please, i know the utec has the manual boost controller so how does it alter boost when changing maps, i run 17lbs on my stage 2 map and hope to run 20+ lbs w/ the meth map.

You shouldn't need anything else. If you have problems reaching the boost you want(after adjusting the abc and boost map correctly), you might wanna look into a helper spring. You should be able to hit the boost you want on different maps just by switching maps though if you set everything up right. If you use some kind of other boost control, you will have to switch that when you change maps. There are advantages to utecs boost control and advantages to other forms of boost control. I would personally save my money if I was you, course I'm cheap.

You have all you need..

I wish more utec users would try single stage (utec solenoid) or even dual stage (utec solenoid + pressure switch) WI setup before just running out and buying progressive setups.

They are cheaper, less complex, and I bet just as effective.

Well, STI owners don't have the 3D solenoid map control yet, but WRX owners do.

Just using the spare solenoid to turn on the WI above, say, a certain pressure is very crude.

Online it may sound crude but in practice I don't believe it is.

In fact i'd bet that if you put up a 3d setup against a 2 stage setup there wouldnt be any mesuasualbe differece in performance.

I think we are a little too quick to over-engineer WI. It's a pump that mists liquid.

Does that include throttle applications of less than WOT?

If you control it with the utec spare solenoid, you can have the first stage(pump) turn on at a given boost(with a pressure switch), and the second stage(solenoid) turn on at a given rpm/boost. Imo this can be very very effective, inexpensive, and easy if done correctly(theoretically :) ).
