View Full Version : How much boost loss from cracked vacumn line?

From the moment I changed the pulley ratios on my supercharger, I SWEAR I was boosting 12-14 psi right off the bat.

Now it wont go above 11, if that.


How small a crack in a vacumn line is needed to affect boost levels? And would this sap 2-4 psi?

a pinhole leak will cause that, and yes you would lose 2-4 psi. When I had this problem and I sealed my leak, and was right back where I should be.

Why was this moved? It has nothing to do with my supercharger, everything to do with boost.

A freaking vacumn line is a freaking vacumn line. Boost is boost. How more general can you get?

You may think that way (I do as well), but the mods do not, and most people in general do not either. Mention anything car related that involves anything under the hood, and it's technical. I will admit this does not deserve to be moved as much as a "Will this CBE fit this DP?" thread, but the mods do what they do, and we can't really argue with them. :(

The problem is related specifically to an aftermarket forced induction system on a previously naturally aspirated vehicle. I don't understand why you'd think it belongs anywhere else, unless it was a more general forum. If it WAS in a more general forum, chances are whoever moved it believe you'd get a more reliable answer in the more specific forum.

As for the issue, it doesn't take much, and a vacuum line is just one of many places it could be leaking. Try capping the manifold somehow and apply some pressure from a compressor and listening for leakage. You should be able to get a good amount of pressure in that way, and it'll immediately pinpoint any issues that may exist. BTW, you should work off the tank pressure, if the compressor kicks on, it might be hard to hear any leaks. ;)

Good idea on the tank pressure test. I will attempt that tommorrow. Have to figure out how to pressurize the manifold to only 15 psi now.

I still argue with moving it though. If I hadnt mentioned supercharger, where would it have been moved to? I didnt post it in AFI because nobody comes here compared to most people on the general forum. And losing boost because of a cracked vacumn line is valid in EVERY boosted forum, and if I posted in EVERY boosted forum, then I would get slapped for cross posting.

If I had a question about changing my oil, and mentioned I had a supercharger, would it still be moved here? :)
