with a dual hi/lo relay wiring harness, should the lowbeam lead from the 9007 connector be used at all?
here's my wiring diagram....

is this going to work with the switched negative? or should the 86's correspond to the negative leads on the 9007 connector and the 85's be hooked to battery positive, and fused?
obviously, the + lead to the 30 will also be fused. i'm just forgetful:lol:

That depends if you want control of your low beams or not. The way you have it wired above, the lows are on all the time.

There is no polarity to the coil leads on your relays, terminals 85 and 86. It will work fine the way you have it.... at least the high beams will.:p
BTW, you've effectively changed your (high beam) lights to switched positive.:)

okay, that's fine.
what if i want the low beams to come on only with the stock lighting stalk switch? i'm a little confused as to what you mean by "on all the time"
i want low beams to stay on with my high beams, but i want to be able to switch them off while my lights are off... i've already unplugged the DRL module.

OK, so you need your low-beam relay to be energized by either the low or high beam on the stock harness. This requires a diode.
1) Get rid of the ground connection on your low beam relay terminal 85 and instead connect that to stock harness -low.
2) Put a diode between -low and -high pointing at -high (striped end).
That should do it.

sorry for the old bump everyone, but i'm still not quite getting this...
if i want low beam bulbs and high beam bulbs with the stock lighting circuits, why won't this work?

The original circuit in your first post is fine, forget about the one above. I'm assuming however that you aren't using the stock lights but have aftermarket ones such as Morettes with separate low and high beams. If so, with the original circuit you can safely have the lows and highs on at the same time since they are directly grounded and powered from the battery so the OEM wiring is being used for control only.
OTOH, if you have the stock headlights then you should NOT do this as they are not designed for both filaments to run at the same time and will burn out quickly.
Also I would fuse the lows and highs separately. If you use only a single fuse on the main B+ it will have to be a high value that won't provide adequate protection.

i will be using h7 halogen projectors from an 06 wrx as my low beams, retrofitted alongside h7 reflector high beams from the dreaded ebay dual beams. they will be seperate bulbs, i'm well aware how fast 9007's burn out when you use both filaments(you can do it by slightly pulling back on the lighting stalk)
so the original circuit will operate the lows with the lighting stalk, not whenever the car's on? i was worried the low beam would be triggered whenever the lighting circuitry showed +12 to the 9007's, which i assumed would be when the car's on instead of when the negative's switched on...

The 12V common headlight power is controlled by the headight switch. The low beams will be on when the key is on and the headlight switch is turned on.
