AAA is trying to increase my rates to $4200 a year because my car is registered in Nevada and living in MI. Is there some company that won't be so stupid? I'm 18 w/ a clean driving record.

Insurance companies shouldn't care where the car is registered. They need your address and where the car is parked, but not registration. I've had cars registered out of state with no problems at all.

Edit: I should add that many insurance companies have different underwriters for different states, so when you move, basically you're starting a new policy. You should simply shop around for MI insurance rates.

No, the insurance company should NOT care where, or if, you car is registered.

I have had a car insured in DC with TX plate, couple of cars insured in RI with TX plates, etc...
