hitting high 80s and 90s these days, and wondered if 5w-30 is adequate for my 06 WRX. My next oil change is due, and thought maybe a 10w-30 might be better...

This will be my first DIY oil change on this car. Gonna go to walmart to pick up some oil and a ramp, but any preference on dino? I was considering 10w-30 pennzoil.

not much use to you im sure, as your climate is much cooler than mine, but i run 10w40 castrol syntec in the arizona summers, but we hit over 120. i know around here the 5w30 doesnt last long without sheering down or burning up.

This thread has lots of opinions about 5w30. I don't think any concensus was reached.

If you're hitting the high 90's, I would go with a 40 weight or a very shear stable 30 weight (German Castrol) but that's just me. I think according to the service manual, a 30 weight is ok for up to around 104F. 5W30 is in it from the factory, but that stuff will be a 20 weight very quick in high heat (1-2,000 miles in a 2.5T).

It also plans on your oil change interval and which Pennzoil. 4-5k on the oil might be ok going with Pennzoil Platinum 10W30. Don't go longer than that without doing a used oil analysis.
