View Full Version : second chance
I have a second chance to become a WRX owner. My first chance was for a blue sedan. I had some bad luck in the stocks awhile back and had to find someone to buy the car I ordered. A member stepped up and helped me out. Now I have a second chance to get a WR Blue wagon. This is the price:
2002 Subaru WRX Wagon
WR Blue in stock
5 Speed Manual Transmission
MSRP: $24,020.00
Selling: $22,548.00
Tax: $676.44
License: $61.00
Title: $179.00
Out The Door: IT ADDS UP TO A GREAT VALUE!!! (..or $23,464.44)
The wagon is exactly how I ordered the earlier sedan, no options.
I wanted to know what you thought of the deal and how the wagon stacks up to the sedan. Are there any drawbacks to it?
bbbradley 10-23-2001, 10:07 AM $179 for a title??? sounds a bit high... Is the dealer hiding some profit in there?
/bill
chkltcow 10-23-2001, 10:19 AM Regardless.. it's not a bad price. Go for it! :)
bradley: I've learned that dealers WILL make their money. They'll trim a little off the sticker price, then stick it to you with financing and fees. One way or another, they're gonna get into your wallet :)

Depends on state... NH you don't pay jack for a title fee, nor do you pay exise tax, but registration is like 300+ a year.
but then again I didn't pay sales tax either. heh

webkris 10-23-2001, 11:51 AM Well Aaron - like we talked about. The whopping $300 reg fee in NH IS the exise tax.
Are there any drawbacks to it?
Well, since you asked.
My wagon friends are going to hit me later but...
1. 17mm Swaybar VS 20mm
2. 20mm smaller track on the wagon
3. 80lbs heavier
A small price to pay for complete utility tho...
- Kris
Thanks webkris. I knew of the extra 80 lbs. and the smaller track. Didn't know about the sway bar. Has anyone driven both and can you tell a difference. I think that I will be pleased. I think the extra utility of the wagon will be of great benefit. I have three little girls to haul around.
sybir 10-23-2001, 12:49 PM you can replace the sway bar for the price difference........
the wagon has better weight distribution, too, and subaru wagons rotate better, in my experience......
StuNH 10-23-2001, 01:34 PM The wagon is more STEALTHY on the road. It is more of a true sleeper! You must ask yourself one question: Do you really need to draw extra attention to yourself as you fly down the road?
I believe that drivers of WRX wagons may be less likely to get stopped for speeding -- than their counterparts in the WRX sedans. I have also heard that the insurance rates are a bit lower for the wagon.
Another benefit: the WRX wagons boast more headroom and front sholder room than the WRX sedans. You can order all the same performance accessories & equipment as in the sedan, but only wagon owners can order bike/ski/cargo carriers for the roof!
Wagons rule:eek:    :p
I like sleepers. And having cops not notice me is a bonus.
chkltcow 10-24-2001, 09:58 AM Let's see.... Wake Forest.... you're up there with those bastard cops with Z28's everywhere, aren't you? I swear... every time I passed through Winston Salem, I would see TONS of those guys sitting on I-40 just waiting.
Yes, escaping "cop vision" is a good thing! :)
mh_WRX 10-24-2001, 10:19 AM Yes the Z28's are finally one the road. They had to wait 6 months after ordering them because they couldn't afford the lights to put on them. :p
Of course once again the NC HP orders a car that’s in its last year of production, and has problems.
The ordering of the LT1 Caprices on the last year and having the wrong paint scheme on them and having to sell the lot for a loss was hilarious, until you realize you had to pay for that screw up
DrBiggly 10-24-2001, 10:43 AM mh_WRX - Yeah, I've seen some of those cars around too; the silver and black are backwards. Looks pretty goofy really. Haven't seen one in a while though....I saw one of the Camaros one day; very stealthy. Scary fast too; they can keep up with a WRX if I don't miss my guess. In a straight line at least...<grin>
red - So you're in Wake Forest huh? I'm about 10 minutes from there. Where in Wake Forest are you? Good that you're getting a second chance on a WRX! :) When do you think you'll be getting it?

at least you tend to notice the Camaros..... they have those distinctive front amber lights... no the bigger threat is the Tahoa or Suburban or whatever it is that they've been pulling people over with lately.
Lets face it, if you're gonna run from the cops, the kind of car they're in won't matter as much as the distance they are from you when you start running. I say let them have camaros!
btw, i LIVE in winston salem and I've only seen the black camaro cop car once.
mh_WRX 10-24-2001, 11:39 AM Yep, its Tahoe's.
And they have also bought a bunch of Jeep Cherokees (another discontinued model).
Most of the Jeeps are white or Black.
FYI, you can spot alot of the Tahoe's and Jeeps because they replace the amber front signals with clear strobes.
chkltcow 10-24-2001, 12:05 PM I pass a Z28 Highway Patrol car on the way to work every day. Funny thing is... the guy that drives it for his job, also owns a blue WRX, I believe :D They're always parked right near each other at his house.
Up in Winston Salem, this was over a year ago... I would see at LEAST one Sheriff's Dept. Z28 sitting on the side of I-40 waiting to nail people. They weren't QUITE as stealthy as the new NCHP Z28's.. but it wasn't something you easily saw coming.
On the other end of the spectrum, I saw a new Chevy Impala NCHP car. I wonder what that poor guy had to do to piss off his boss and get stuck driving THAT! :p
mh_WRX 10-24-2001, 12:18 PM The same thing the ones driving the Intrepeds did:rolleyes:
wrx182 10-24-2001, 12:31 PM Excellent deal! I got the wagon....didn't really matter to me which one I got, and the dealership had the wagon in white (the color i wanted) so I went for it. I love both the sedan and wagon.
Best of luck to you:D
DrBiggly,
Live in the jones dairy road subdivision, actually closer to Rolesville. Work in the RTP. I have that quote from Southern States. Will test drive it on Sat. From there maybe a week.
mh_WRX 10-24-2001, 05:37 PM Red - Just an FYI.
Performance in Chapel Hill has about 20 on the lot with multiple wagons. One of the sales guys has been calling me say they are "Willing to Throw money at me."
DrBiggly 10-24-2001, 06:13 PM Red,
Cool, I know just where that is. I live on 401 about 5-6 miles North of Rolesville. Let me know when you get your wagon so I can come by and take a look at it! :)
Hey, also you should go look at Performance in Chapel Hill; they're a smaller dealership so they might cut you a deal. Good tip mh_WRX!
mh_WRX 10-24-2001, 09:30 PM You may even get a bidding war going between Southern States, Performance, and Cross Creek (Fayetteville).
Believe me, there is no love loss between Southern States and Performance.
I did it. I got the WR Blue WRX Wagon. I brought it home yesterday. I am finding it very hard to keep under 4000 rpm. It is amazingly fast. I went by performance and they didn't have any wagons left. I think I got a pretty good deal. At 500 over invoice off the lot axactly the way I wanted it. It only had 38 miles on it and I put 25 of those on the test drive. You could say I'm happy.
mh_WRX 10-29-2001, 10:33 AM Congratulations...
