I am planning my trip to Salt Lake City for the Olympics, but all the hotels rooms are book by agencies charging no less than $250 for any room. So I was thinking about just sleeping in the wagon for 2 nights. Anyone sleep in their wagon before?
Anyone know a good parking lot in SLC.?

there' a tent next to wagon (Passat?Jetta?) and some guy pops outta the hatch.

I slept a night in my sedan... it wasn't that bad. The wagon would be like a luxury suite compared to my sedan. A good sleeping bag and an air mattress and I'm sure it would be comfy.

That would be $500 your saving too... think of the mods you could buy with that :lol:

I slept in my '90 Legacy wagon last weekend (with back seats folded), with just a sleeping bag, and my jacket as a pillow, and it was damn comfy. I could stretch out almost all the way, too, and I'm 6'4". :D

Don't ask me why I was sleeping in it... :rolleyes:

You'll sleep great! My wife and I were taking a long, overnight drive to NY a few months back. At about 3 AM we pulled into a well lit hotel parking lot and slept for 3 hours before returning to the highway. We didn't fold the rear seats down, just reclined the front seats and dreamed away... :alien:

With the rear seats down, a decent air mattress, and a warm blanket, you may forget you're not at home. :p One note - the windows will fog up something terrible from your body's release of moisture. Not sure how to prevent the fogging without leaving a window parially down - not a good idea during the cold winters in Salt Lake!

Oh, one other idea, park near a public restroom for the early morning routine or the unexpected nightime bladder relief. There's nothing worse than waking up with a full bladder and no where to go! :lol:

I slept in a VW jetta sedan with two trials bikes and a friend in the car in sub freezing weather. The WRX wagon will be a Rits Caralton comparitively.

If I can fall asleep at 6:30am after an all night drive to Mammoth Mountain from San Diego in a Ford Ranger pickup, packed with snowboard gear in the driver's seat that couldn't fold down...believe me, you certainly can sleep in your wagon!

I slept in the GL at the 3rd annual west coast subaru meet. It was nice and warm inside since it was a smaller space than a tent. I had a sleeping bag and air mattress in the back with the seat folded down. Better than being at home :D

Yep! I sleep at auto-xes sometimes. It works great with all the back seat down. Also, if you want to watch something, you recline the front pass and driver side seats down a little, raise the headrests on the back seat a little, drop the back seat, and you have a reclined seating position with headrest!

I do that sometimes when I watch the auto-x action.

Sleeping advice:

Check out the owners manual as this is explained there! (FTFM!) :)

Take the headrests off the front seats. Move them all the way forward (towards dash) and now recline them all the way back. The back of the front seat should line up with the seating cushion of the rear seat and make a bed.

That might be better than folding the back seats flat. This works with a sedan too.

Try and pick somewhere safe to sleep. I remember someone who had a bad experience sleeping in a car once and awoke to found a person with a knife outside their car window. (This was in California, near Yosemite) The person ran away because they thought the "sleeper" was reaching for a gun. Ha ha! They were acutally moving a sports bag so they could start the car and take off!

I once had to sleep in a Ford Thuderbird SC (rental car) and it was terrible! I was stuck in bad weather in Mount Baker National Park and that was the best option. There are actually no comforable sleeping positions in that car!

Two adults can easily sleep in the back of an Impreza 2.2 OBS, so I'm sure the WRX is an easy fit! Regarding finding a place to sleep, just find a local Wal*Mart, go in and ask them what their policies are regarding parking in the lot overnight. Virtually all Wal*Marts allow campers and trucks to park at the far end of the lot to sleep overnight.

I've slept in a Ford Festiva. The WRX has to be nicer. ;-)

sleep position: diagonal with seats folded down
places: 2 ski resorts in offseason, 1 campground.

rain makes cool sound on roof, and no bugs! alarm chirped once when I moved around.

Does the WRX Wagon have a release for the hatch inside?

Because the legacy wagon doesn't, and it has pissed me off to no end the few times I've slept back there because getting out the rear doors when the seats are down isn't very easy.

I'm 5'6" or so, and I'm just short enough that I can sleep fully stretched out in the back. Unfortunately, there is no release from the hatch.

We were in the wagon, but we WEREN'T sleeping.
