I am wondering where you guys are getting your methanol from. I cant think of anywhere in town (jacksonville) that carries it.

Yea, i just did some google research and made the same discovery. HEET is like 99% methanol while the ISO-HEET is isopropyl. I am going to price it around town, but walmart will probably be the cheapest, as they are for most products.

Either take from work (I am a chemist) or buy it at the local drag strip for $3.00 a gallon

No it's the yellow bottle with blue letters on the left. Less than a buck at Walmart. Iso-Heet is on the right in red, but is not methanol.

I will find out where we got our last bit of Methanol from. We currently have a 5 gallon jug of 50/50 water/meth. mix here at the shop for our Aquamist installs. I will post up where we found it at.

It looks like heat is around $3-5 for just 16 ounces...i'd rather pay $3 for a whole gallon of strait meth. Do hardware stores carry it like ace hardware?

I use the yellow bottles of heet for my meth injection (tuned for it) In the Spring WalMart usually sells the stuff off super cheap, $.50 for a 4 pack which works out to ~$1.50/gal. Several months ago I bought 60+ 4packs and cleared out a few stores. It works!

I'll have to check my local super walmart. I was just guessing their price, I saw it online somewhere but it wasnt the walmart price. If I can get it for $1.50 a gallon that would be awesome. Perhaps I'll check tomorrow and post back with my findings.

Any local kart track, or fuel distributor sells the stuff in 5 gallon containers or by the drum. Take a look in the yellow pages.

My Wal-Mart has Heet normally priced at $.97, which is about $10 per gallon. The bottles are actually 12 ounce (not 16) I think. Much more than a race track, but they are very convenient.

The SLX brand of denatured alcohol is also very popular and can be somewhat cheap (like $10-$12 gal) . It contains 50% methanol and 50% ethanol (I found the MSDS http://www.wmbarr.com/msds/GSL26.pdf ).

Dang, im not looking forward to $10 a gallon, that is kinda steep. I think i'll be checking the phone book when I get home. I will also have to check my local walmart and see what the going rate is.

Well, it's not THAT bad. I am going to be running SLX denatured alcohol from Lowe's. I got it for $13/gal I think. I am going to be running a 50/50 mix with water. Figure my 1-gal tank will last 2-4 tanks of gas (depending on the tune and how I drive), that's 1 gallon every 6-8 tanks of gas. That's only like 1 gal per month, or longer. Not too bad.

Yes, that is an insane amount of fluid. Isnt the 2005 sti washer tank kinda small though? my 02 wrx one hold nearly a gallon.

I got 2 bottles of meth HEET, they were $0.97 a piece for 12 ounces. It mixed with the distilled water great. I am not going to use it for at least a couple days though.

so just make sure you buy +5 gallons..
its that or pay around 4~5 per gallon..

Ask around and find where the local drag racers or sprint car drivers are getting theirs. Often tracks or speed shops catering to such drivers will carry the VP meth. That is where I get mine: $2.45 per gallon onto my own container. :D

MEK is NOT alcohol. DO NOT PUT THAT STUFF IN YOUR CAR

All denatured alcohol contains methanol. The amount of methanol varies. Klean-Strip which makes SLX contains 50/50 methanol/ethanol. It also has a small percentage of other additives, like less than 4%.

Below is the MSDS on SLX by Klean Strip. It is a popular choice for injection because it is so readily available. Parks Corporation, the other major manufacturer of denatured alcohol has far less methanol, and is more than 80% ethanol.

Just picked up a couple of gallons of the SLX Denatured Alcohol from that circle of hell called Home Depot.

I saw some interesting stuff called a kerosene substitute made by Klean Strip for sale. I asked Dude what it contained because there was no information on the label at all and he didn't know. Anyone know? No going to use it, just interested.

These guys have various mixes including water/meth premix that doesn't require the added expense of shipping hazardous chemicals because of the mix.

Snow Performance's "Boost Juice" (basically the same as above in theory) is $45 for 4gal water+meth shipped. Oof again.

Using HEET is a little cheaper, ie., 128oz of methanol = 10.8 bottles of heat (call it 11) at $0.90 per bottle = $9.90...deminerialized water = $0.64 per gallon. = $10.54 for a 2 gal mix X 2 = $21.02 for 4gallons that you mix yourself. Pricng = Walmart as of 2 days ago. and that even includes all the little prepackaged yellow bottles in the mix vs buying in 1 bulk container...
