My boss was telling me about a new refrigerant, R-414B. He says that it's colder than R-134a and I should be able to use it instead. I haven't been able to find much info on it outside of www.r-414b.net (http://www.r-414b.net).
Anyone have any input or knowledge? I know I should let be what is but if it will work I might consider trying it.

Never heard of it. On a side note, I had my AC recharged at Perry last week. They have a crazy machine that does it and Danny said it usually takes 5 minutes to do the job. He had my car on there for 45 minutes and when it was all said and done he laughed and said my AC now pours out 42 degree air. It was $80 for the service, but my air is now BUTT COLD.

You really shouldn't put a different refrigerant in your system than the one its designed for. Theres a lot of math involved with selecting refrigerants and oils and such. Don't ask me to go through it though. :) If your AC isn't cold enough, get it sucked down really good and charged with the correct refrigerant and it will be so cold you can hardly stand it.

It's cold, don't get me wrong. But I have a real bad squeal whenever the AC is on (not my belt) and wanted to replace the compressor.
I figured since I had to refill it anyway, I might try it out if it would work.

Cool
pun intended... :D

hi jim..
i am curently using r414b for allr replacements on r12, r134a and the result is fantastic not only are my systems much more stable but the result in temperature and performance is exactlely what is described about r414B + you need less refrigerant for more performance and no special retrofits it is compatible whit mineral and poe oils and it is less expensive then r134 it give an increase in performance of 20% on r134 also much easyer to adjust the superheat and subcooling..
from what i heard r414B is only available in canada you can check on the dupont site for more info they are the ones producing this refrigerant..
i hope this helps.. im in quebec canada..
