So hello all? I was just wondering....... I've done a couple of "TOO" high RPM launches, and I got a strange odor once........
 I was wondering if that could be the clutch? It didn't smell like burnt rubber............ Hmmmmmm any ideas? I'm trying to be good to my baby, but those damned red lights are very unpredictable
Thanks for the help.

so I can't tell you how it tastes. I do however can tell you how it smells -- it stinks - at least mine does!
If you get that distinct stinky odor every time you ride/slip your clutch at high RPM, then that's the smell of a "burnt" clutch.

So, that smell is my clutch........ now what is the threshold for failure??? ANYONE BLOWN A CLUTCH? I just want to know if you can do that a certain number of times before it gets blown, or what?
Thanks

I don't think you can blow out a clutch. Clutches can wear out (that's why dealers don't cover them under warranty) and they normally have to be replaced (rather long intervals between changes). If you burn it to the point where you get that nice clutchy smell all the time, you'll wear through the clutch faster than someone normally driving would. I don't know how long clutches normally last, but I do know certain people go through them quicker than others...it just seems to depend on your driving style and habits.
I wouldn't worry too much about breaking something, but I would recommend you try to avoid burning the clutch that bad all the time.

I've probably done about 30 of those "hard launches" at the drags and the auto-x. My clutch doesn't slip or anything -- yet. I've got about 43,000km which is about 27,000mi.
I'm only hard on my clutch at the races. On the street, I'm extra gentle.

as ur clutch gets worn the pedal gets kind of stiffer...
and as u disengage the cluth the friction point starts at a later time...
they last around 100,000 km usually..
and the reason why most people burn their clutches much faster is because their left foot is always on the clutch ...
