View Full Version : Omg My Wrx Just Got )(@#*$
ellinopedo182 10-24-2001, 03:57 AM from spending 10 minutes in my basement because the tornado warning siren was going off, i come upstairs to see how my car is... as i go outside to my car... i see at least 3-4 inches of hail covering my driveway. I look at my car... looks fine... so i bring it into the garage so i can dry it off... and omg when i dry it off... i realize... i have about 100 hail dents... most on my hood and ceiling of my car and a few on my trunk and the spoiler is a little loose too. this so f@#()$* sucks . god i hope my insurance covers this because the damages are enormous!!!
for now thats it... i need to get another tissue... im about ready to cry again!
bye
bye:( :(
Keith 10-24-2001, 04:00 AM wow dude that sux!
But here is the good side.
new toys!!! if they can't fix it, u can get some new stuff.
Get a carbon fiber hood and trunk lid. As for the roof of the car...hopefully they can fix that.
If its not bad, make it bad now;) get ur hammer out and beat the crap out of that hood :) (don't do that ! :D)
good luck with ur insurance man...hope it works out
Keith
Eric SS 10-24-2001, 04:00 AM That does suck! I'm sure your homeowners or auto insurance will cover it if you had that kind of coverage. Best of luck
Eric
LttLDGN 10-24-2001, 04:13 AM ouch... i feel for you man... my car got keyed...and i was really upset... :(

Kostamojen 10-24-2001, 04:18 AM Not to sound mean or anything, but why wasnt it in the garage in the first place???
Verist 10-24-2001, 05:04 AM Sorry to hear about that, I have been monitoring the weather from out here at work (Air Force Weather Agency), it looks like you guys got slammed. Good luck with your claim.

T-WRX 10-24-2001, 05:07 AM I live in Grayslake. We spent about 15 minutes in the basement. You could barely shout over the sound of the hail. Thank God for my garage. :(
WRX_man20 10-24-2001, 06:04 AM Kostamojen, obviously he wasn't expecting it to hail otherwise he'd have put it in the garage, duh.
ellinopedo182 10-24-2001, 08:39 AM thanks guys... ill see what ill do... ill call up the insurance company later and see if it is covered...which it should be... if it is... well then :-) new mods! if not ... damn i need to start working again!
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but isn't this kind of thing considered an "Act of God", and therefore not covered by any kind of insurance? A tree fell on my old car in the driveway once and neither homeowners or my auto insurance cared very much.

GRWRX 10-24-2001, 08:46 AM I'm sure you have comp. and coll., so you're covered.
Dori Dori 10-24-2001, 09:38 AM That really blows. Sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, I'll tell you about a similar experiance I had.
At the time, my car was my pride and joy. Every dollar I had went into it. Well, one day while it was parked in front of my girlfriends house, I heard a 'booom' and then my alarm went off. I go outside and I see an enormous palm tree frawn on top of the car. It fell from a tree, roughly 6 stories high. The frawn was much larger that the car. It landed on the roof/hood/trunk...blew out all of my windows, dented the roof in, cracked the spoiler, dented the hood, both fenders and 1/4 panels...just about the whole car was dented except for the front and rear bumper.
Good luck getting it fixed (btw, insurance should cover it).:)

When was this? Tuesday?
I work in Riverwoods (and further north in Libertyville on the first week of the month). I might have gotten the same myself if it was the first week of Nov. Though, maybe Libertyville is too far south from the damage.

b00st3d 10-24-2001, 11:13 AM had hail here in louisiana about a year ago and it pegged the crap out of my civic si...i had full coverage on it and insurance covered all the damage...you should be ok!
methadon
Corpsie 10-24-2001, 11:18 AM If my insurers' wouldn't cover the damage "due to acts of God", they'd have about 1 minute to start praying before meeting him :monkey:
Subie Gal 10-24-2001, 11:19 AM your insurance should cover it if you have full coverage...
wow!!! sounds like a hell of a storm!!!!
hope things work out for you.... and you others... you better have full coverage if you live in an area with high winds, storms, etc... if not? you are going to be arsed out if this happens to you!
keep us posted!
jamie

what about my situation, am I covered.
I carry full coverage too.
My car got pelted by acorns, 20 or so dents on the hood.. 15 on the roof/sunroof.
do I have any hope?
jk147 10-24-2001, 12:35 PM wow, that sucks man. Sorry to hear that.
Now my dent on the roof is nothing compare to that
yuns555 10-24-2001, 12:57 PM crap! i'm kinda by you and that storm was killer! i didn't pay any attention to it because i was at work. i should go outside and check the car now...... :(
opusguru 10-24-2001, 01:01 PM Gosh, didn't realize that anyone in the Chicago area actually paid attention to those annoying "tornado" sirens.. Especially up north... I thought the Plainfield/Joliet area was the only area that Tornado's ever touched down on.. Chicago has such a harsh environment on cars anyways... It's next to impossible to keep a near mint body unless it's garaged 24/7.. I cannot wait till
I move outta here!!! -Sean
Mugen_2_STi 10-24-2001, 01:14 PM damn, i am in evanston and when the hail was coming down i thought it would be a repeat of last year when my Si got nailed by hail. it was horrible.
so i went to check my car just now and dry it with a towel everything was ok. the tree above helped block some i think...i guess i won't know for SURE until the car is completely dry.
can this happen to one person twice?
jeff
ellinopedo182 10-24-2001, 01:22 PM yeah the storm was pretty bad. lets see... it started to hail at 1:10 in the morning... i woke up and checked the clock right away before heading down the stairs to see my car... but there was no luck... it was hailing tooooooo much. so it ended like 20 minutes later. i left my house at about 6:45 and there was still about 2 inches of hail on the ground.... god that storm is one of the worst ive seen. im very pissed at subaru... b/c i paid 29,000 for my car... and i never expected it to dent that easily... my dads 3000 gt sl had no dents whatsoever. That really pisses me off... my dad is going later to subaru dealer to find out why the car was made so 'cheap'! anyhow... i still love the car! wrx... wow i love it, the best car out there... but i really hate how cheap it is made. its ok... what do you all think of carbon fibered hoods? do they come in blue though? what do you think the damage would set my insurance company back? i need a new hood, roof sheet, and trunk. and a few more dents on the side of the car... god thats a lot of damage. that pisses me off!
Mugen_2_STi 10-24-2001, 01:29 PM you should keep in mind that the hood is made of aluminum (which is why they don't even want you to press on it). they did that to make the car lighter, not because they were too cheap to put a heavier hood on. i don't think the rest of the car is aluminum, but if your dad strats questioning why it was made so cheaply, i'm sure they will say that they used lighter materials to enhance performance or something.
Ryouga 10-24-2001, 03:03 PM Yeah. I was stuck in traffic waiting to merge from 290 onto 294 when we got nailed by the mid-morning hail storm.
Worst part was, the hail wasn't round like you typically see. It was in these big, marble-sized jagged chunks.
kdmd2b 10-24-2001, 06:23 PM Wow I'm really sorry to hear that. How hard is it to get dents out of the roof of the car? I ask because yesterday when I was getting in my car I noticed a dent about a couple cm long in the roof of my car. I don't know where it came from, but it was quite windy yesterday so I am thinking that something must have blown into it. It really isn't that major but it is the car's first dent :(
ellinopedo182 10-24-2001, 06:59 PM i just got done talking with the insurance company and they said that >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THEYLL COVER THE DAMAGE!!!!!!!! im taking it in tomorrow! heck yeahhhhh!
GRWRX 10-24-2001, 08:00 PM If you have comp., acorns would also be covered.
Martin Ritchie 10-24-2001, 08:05 PM But to be on the safe side, wait until it hails then claim it. ;)
tom@kartboy 10-24-2001, 08:44 PM talk to Peaty
he had the same thing on his RS
they did the paintless dent removal and it looks like new
Cupholder 10-24-2001, 09:55 PM Your insurance probably will NOT cover this damage. Most insurance companies exclude damages stemming from an "act of god" -- and that's exactly what a Tornado is.
GRWRX 10-24-2001, 10:08 PM Acts of god, such as tornado are covered. That whole "act of god not covered" thing is completely misunderstood. It does not apply to the "damage to your auto" section of the policy. I'm not even sure if it is ever mentioned in an auto policy. I'm speaking of NY auto policies, but most states are very similar.
kdmd2b 10-24-2001, 10:48 PM I think that the acts of god thing comes from warrenties. For example, you wouldn't ask SOA to repair the car. However, insurance is for acts of god.
Skylab 10-24-2001, 10:55 PM b/c i paid 29,000 for my car...
That alone would make me cry. :(
Why'd you pay so much?

Well duh, he had a garage, and space for his car, and it was still outside?
I dont get it. I need more info.
(I dont have any understanding for people with garages, and space in the garages, who park their brand new cars outside in the elements. I could never do that, and would make room in my garage to park my car there at all costs)
gnildronde 10-25-2001, 03:01 PM Of course it will be covered by your insurance. I know that in theory and from experience. You might want to get an estimate from two different shops. Sometimes they try to low ball you thinking you will just pocket the money and never fix it. Don't let them screw you. Unless they're really cute.
ellinopedo182 10-25-2001, 08:11 PM the reason that i didnt leave it in the garage was because we have our dog in there... and well we dont want it to scratch the car. but from now on... the dog is staying in the house... cuz im never leaving the car outside EVER AGAIN!!!!!!
oh yeah the estimate came in... $4800.00!!!!!!! wowwwww!
Necromancer 10-25-2001, 10:28 PM Your WRX just became faster! For the same reason that golf balls have dimples -- it improves the aerodynamic qualities of the car. With our absurdly bad 0.32 Cd, the car could use all the help it can get!
rsr911 10-25-2001, 10:58 PM I know when I heard HAIL!! I ran for cover.
Remember the WRX has an aluminum hood.

ya definitely got screwed...a tree fell on my parents minivan and it was fully covered.
footypaul 10-25-2001, 11:16 PM My truck was taken by and act of God, a flash flood. I found out about how everything insurance works when it comes to this. actually our ins policy had a clause that alot of things have no deductible, like floods and hail. Lost the truck due to owing more than it was worth but anyway. i had several hail dents in the truck, i mean it was monstrous hail, remember, im talking about a dodge pickup, sheet metal thicker than chevy and ford counterparts. but i just lived with the hail dings, and didnt even know there was zero deductible on hail damage, or i woudl have had it fixed, it wasnt really bad enough for me to worry about otherwise
