Since that thread got locked, and deleted aparently, I didnt get a chance to respond... So ill make my own post about the subject (since he can still read the forums, you know :p)

Why do we like our Subaru's so much?

Well, its not because they are 4 cylinders, thats for sure... I bet anyone here on the board would kill for a H6 Impreza, or even an H8 impreza/Subaru!

Thats the thing though, we like the "H" part :) You know, H = Horizontal engine IE like a porsche! (Note of history: Subaru designers learned from the Porsche folks when they decided to make subaru)

So to us, Subaru is not a honda, its more of a "baby" porsche, audi even (due to the rally tradition)... But not honda/toyota :p

Our engines actually have torque, and have a nice solid sound to them... Which is why most of us bought Subaru's :D

But, dont forget the rest of the car...

Take the chasis for instance: The GC8 (93-01 Impreza's) are very solid cars, but the 02 is an even stronger car... All of which, make the Camaro and other F-body aging chasis look like Wet noodles!

Then, theres the AWD... There is nothing more fun than doing a doughnut, or a drift, or just gassing it out of a corner in an AWD Car :D Especially when it has a 50/50 power distribution like our Manual tranny AWD does. This also helps in stoplight racing, since we get INSANE 30' foot times, as all our tires stay glued to the ground and the car just JUMPS right off the line. Of course, it can hinder the car later in acceleration, but thats why we want the STi so much!!! (adjustable center differential!!!)

So, we do like our cars for more than just street racing, but we can do it just as well as anyone else if we choose to, and yes, it costs more for us to modify a car to do 12's than it would in a camaro, but thats just not what we are about...

We are about being DIFFERENT and about HAVING FUN while driving! Not just trying to be the fastest bozo on the block :p

ummm.....not necessarily true.... :D

i'm pretty sure a WRX can hit 12's without too many mods...

but always remember this quote:

Any fool can go fast.... in a straight line

plus... i like the smaller sized buttons in japaneese cars... :D

I would have liked to chime in also but didn;t get a chance. They are both gret cars. If it means anything, I drive a Subaru and build F-body and corvette's for high-performance street and race use for a living.

And there has been some bad info. A well prepared F-body car will handle as good (if not better) than a well prepared WRX. And, a semi-well prepaired Corvette will always perform better than a WRX. Trust me.

However, I still drive a Subaru :) I get to live vicariously through my customers cars. ;)

I wish people would stop posting that anyone can go fast in a straight line... that is another thing that just isn;t true. Let 10 people drive the same car and you will get 10 different times just like a road course. There is a lot more than just putting the pedal to the metal.

I don't want a flame war, I just want people to respect other peoples choices in driving styles and car choices.

I would hardly compare the "skill" of drag race'n to the skill of road course driving.

yes there are skills used in Drag'n.. you need to know how to launch, and well.. thats about it. and you also need to know how to shift.

In Road Race'n you need to know those also ( launch'n isnt that much of an issue but shifting sure as hell is). But you also need to know how to take a corner, how to corner and drift you car if needed.

Yes Drag'n does take SOME skill, but I would never compare it to the level that a road course is. Drag'n is 90% car, 10% driver. Road race'n is more like 65% driver 35% car.

I'm not comparing skill levels, I'm just stating that it does still take skill. I agree that it takes more skill to road race but to each there own :) I do them both and love them both

More like 60% driver, 30% car, 10% trunkmonkey :D :D :D :monkey:

I installed my trunk monkey last weekend. It is a Curious George (about 8" tall) with velcro on his hands. I stuck him on the wagon's 3rd seat belt, where he can just peak out of the rear wagon side window. I swear my cornering has improved.

True, depends on you monkeys training level. If you have a novice or out of practics monkey hes only good for a couple percent. if you have a pro monkey, then yah I can see 10%.
Never under estimate the weight shifting ability of the monkey.:monkey:

My monkey is trying, but he doesnt have a strut bar or sway bar to work with so he is having trouble :p

Help is on the way though! :D

Imprezinator

When I use the "anyone can go fast in a straight line" quote, I don't use it in reference to a dragstrip, but just driving period. Maybe some people use it the same way I do.

kinda off topic...

i think i'll put my Chumpmonkey in soon. Probably a relative of the Trunkmonkey. www.chumpmonkey.com

:)

Oh, and to be back on topic: I love my suby! Destroys my GTP I had! Cornering rocks! Power rocks! Work rots!

There is ONE thing about my Subie that I miss from my Grand Prix..... low end torque :p

Ahh.. who cares though. Once you hear that precious whine of the turbo starting to spool... low end torque becomes a moot point :D

I did a bunch of surfing on this site last night after that thread was closed hoping to find a reason for this car to be considered a performance car. One thing that really bothered me was that most of you said that you did not buy this car to go in a straight line and the car was more than that. I found a guy by the name of AL that brags a-lot about his fastest in the US car. I.E. quickest in the ¼ mile. Others do the same thing in their posts under their name. Posting sixty-foot times and ¼ track times. How can some of you people sit here and say that you are not concerned about straight-line times? I do not see any times for an oval or a road course posted (I know I did not look at every thread but I found a lot of ¼ times and no track times).

It is a very ignorant thing to state something as fact when it is not. Here is some examples:

The Camaro weighs twice as much as the WRX.
The WRX is just as quick as the Camaro.
The WRX could run circles on the Camaro at a road course.

Those are just not true. The Camaro is not a boat it is a sports car that is quick and fast. The weight misconception is just funny.

He did not compare you to Honda owners but you are beginning to sound like them. You have a 4cl not an 8 so understand your limitations.

Also, I think what Nick did to that guy last night was out of line. He basically said his 2 cents worth and closed the thread and banned him. That sent a message to him all right, that we do not play fair. The guy was no more insulting than the others, but he got banned. That is just not cool.
