I've got a MY00 RS and I've had this whistling (like whistling through your teeth) noise everytime I hit 40mph and above (windows have to be up, otherwise it gets drowned out). It's not that noticeable (not since my exhaust anyway) and my friends occasionally mistake it for a jet plane overhead. I don't really mind it (cuz some passengers mistake it for a turbo spooling up ;)), but I'd like to know what may be causing it.

It's probably air rushing past cracks and seams in your drivers side mirror. Alot of people have complained about this. Mine does it a little too. If you want to stop it, you can always put some clear 3m tape over the seams and cracks in the mirror. Hope this helps!

That's exactly what it was with mine...put your hand in front of the driver's side rearview and the sound should go away. I haven't done anything about it, but it feels a whole lot better once you know what it is!

There was a whistle on my 99 RS as well, and someone back in 99 suggested the noise came from the crack between the headlight and the turn signal. I put in a small bead of silicone, an viola, whistling stopped. Say no to crack.

Your problem could be different, but it sure made a big difference on my car, and I swore it was the mirror.

I just noticed the same thing with my MY00 RS about two days ago and It was the Drivers side mirror. I gave it a good jiggle and it went away. Go figure?!?

In my case, it came from the window strip along the a-pillar. Just lube the inside of the strip and see if it helps...

Mine hasn't learned how to whistle yet...it just hums and moans.
:)

Actually, that's just my wheel bearing going out.

It's almost therapeutic at times. Quiet road late at night...just the tire noise, soft music playing, exhaust on quiet drone...and the whistle. Ah...relaxing. :D

I do remember the "old schoolers" complaining about the mirror noise  I thought that it might have been that, but it doesn't sound like it could be coming from the mirror. IIRC, people said that they fixed that problem in the MY00+ models. Some of my friends said it could be because of the hood scoop  Well, it doesn't seem like it'll cause any immediate harm. Thanks for the input!

If it's not the mirror, it could be from the windshield molding / rubber weatherstipping.

I think it is from my windshield, but no leaks so it's cool.

Does it only happen when your g/f is wearing a skirt?
