View Full Version : Got Scammed by spankaveli

:furious: I got scammed by spankaveli on his so-called RA transmission. Sent him a $1000.00 deposit via Palpal in early March. He said the tranny would take a "couple of weeks to ship" due to a sleeve being replaced. I said, "no problem". Come May, (two months later) and about 40 emails back and forth and still I hear, "its almost ready". So I demanded my deposit back. The idiot spent it already and claims that he's broke!! So here it is August and still no refund and not even an offer for payments. I have no idea what happened to the tranny. And he won't answer my emails except with another sob story.
Its past the time frame for Paypal so I'm sh__ out of luck with them. He has kept a low profile and his address is a mystery. So I'm going to hire a P.I. in Baton Rouge to track him down. Problem is that I live in South Texas and taking him to small claims court will require that I travel there.

Baton rouge? If you get an address, I will drive up there one weekend and check out his house, see if a subaru is there... Also, might want to try and contact the dealer up there and see if they know of him... say you have some parts for him and you need to find him ;)

hey man I have been trying to get a hold of him for like a week now to buy that tranny from him. he said he needed at least 1000.00 to sell it to me so that he can pay off your deposit. I have sent him at least 3 or 4 pms, trying to buy it from him, and i am going to probably end up driving to beaumont, where the tranny is apparently located @ his mechanics shop. I was going to give him 1000 and my broken tranny since he said the car was getting repoed and it didnt matter if the transmission was screwed up. anyway I will keep in contact with you incase I hear anything from him, because from what I gather he does have intentions of paying you back your money, and I will be meeting him face to face to hand over the money, because I dont feel like getting taken for a G. I am in north austin, so a 10 hour drive is completely worth saving 1000.00. anyway heres to hoping this gets resolved soon, and you get the money back, and I get the transmission i want.

Nater,
That's one of the problems. He has kept a low profile. I have a PI standing by to search for him in Baton Rouge. He has a computer business but its not licensed and he has several websites but they don't give out personal information.
I've heard one sob story after another about his house getting repoed, his car is all screwed from an accident. I know he works for Eatel. Or least he did. But all I've gotten for the past five months is lip service.
If I have to hire the PI then he's going be taken to full court litigation with damages. The lawyer is going to cost me big time because I can't afford the time to apprear. I work in Mexico for a major Medical Device company as their Senior Compliance Officer.
Yes, I could tell some great stories about Mexico!! The locals are quite friendly.

And thanks everybody for your support. Nobody likes deadbeats.

well damn i didnt read all of that, i had no idea about any accident, I am kind of confused now, especially since i didnt know that repo companies took back cars that were smashed to hell. btw, I have never heard anything about baton rouge, but i do know that he is currently selling his home in a city called Geismar, LA. let me know what happens. I also sent you back a reply email to the msn account. keep me posted bro. btw if you know of anyone selling a good 2002-03 wrx tranny feel free to send them my way because since i dont smoke anymore I need me some kind of fix, lol.

Unloco187,
The tranny should be in top shape. He had his machanic reinspect it completly and would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade. it had few miles since the RA install and had a small bearing noise and the mechanic tore it down and replaced a bushing that was causing some rubbing on the shaft. Except for a STi tranny or APS gears, this thing is cheap thrills for the WRX. I currently have 2006 Sti. I wanted the tranny for my 2002 WRX that I have since sold and moved onto bigger and better subarus!! Its a good tranny. If you buy it tell him that you will only send the cash to me and see what he says. Let me know. We honest guys must stick together.

hell man I am down with that, I am already irritated as hell that this has taken as long as it has, because like i have said, I need my fix. I dont want to have to buy the gearset by itself new, because that is going to be 1300-1400 by itself, and my mechanic is going to charge me 800.00 to install it, putting the cost at over 2000.00, which if i wanted to pay that much, I would just save up the extra 800.00 and buy the ppg gearset. I just want to drive my car again, I have had it for about a year now, and have only gotten to drive it about 4 months out of that year based on the problems i have had with it, all of which i caused myself from abuse. I have a built motor sitting under the hood with all kinds of extra goodies, with a garbage tranny on it. :(

unloco187,
Here is his phone number:
225-647-7265 Home/Office
225-288-7265 Cell
Try him at those numbers. Tell him that I sent you. Also, if you seal the deal and demand that the money be sent to me I'll cut you $100.00 off the $1000.00 that he owes me. Its worth it just to get this out of what hair I have left.
As for your WRX, just remember that they do not like hole shots or speed shifting. I had a 2002 with a FMIC, big 16g and STi pinks and sold it $14k with 93,000 mi. The tranny was still working great. Just remember don't let your foot overload your brain and you'll be fine. Make sure that your drivetrain is preloaded before you hammer it. Get his tranny and you will have loads of fun with those ratios in it.

edit-***I just checked to see when his last activity was, and it says yesterday @ 2:23 pm, so i dont know what the deal is. I am sure he has read the thread, but for some reason he didnt read my pms. I WANT THAT DAMN TRANSMISSION!***

Ryanjorunner,
Alll of his phone numbers are unlisted. but I do have three of them including either his sister or wife. He owns a couple of websites called, www.spankdu.com and www.sportsnimports.com.
His email is:
jeremyj@eatel.net
He has a business called Jouette Computer Services, (www.jcsptech.com) but it seems to be under the table since it is not licensed either.
I have not found an address on him. That's way I've got a PI that I'm about to pull the trigger on to locate his private information so I can locate a Lawyer to take him to court. As my orginal thread states, I live in south Texas and cannot afford the time to fly to LA to file and apprear in Small Claims. If I sue, I'll have to go the long, (and expensive) route to obtain restitution. I have over 40 emails with some excuse or another and it just plan reads like a major default on his part. I've had legal here at work look it over and they state there is more then enough grounds to sue and collect damages.

I wont be able to send him a reply on the cash until monday now, because I put a deposit down on another tranny, and I will have to get my friend to give me my cash back now but his shop isnt open til mon. I will talk to spankaveli about what me and you decided, about me sending you the cash directly. if he doesnt agree to those terms, than I will not buy his transmission from him.

shgilman

Unloco187,
He sent me a PM asking me if I want the money or not. As if he had the money all of the time. I would recomend that you first find out what his reaction is when you request that the funds be sent to me. After his reaction then you can decide what your next course of action would be. My email address is tied to Paypal. I would test the ratios when you see the tranny to make sure that he does not do a "bait and switch" on you. Cover your butt. Its okay to do business but, verify, verify and then verify again.
If you do send the funds to me I will wait until you get the tranny installed and test it out before I make any transfers. Make sure you get a bill of sale from him. No verbal stuff. Its too risky.
Its only fair for you you are trying to do for me. By the way, where are you located? I'm in McAllen up from Brownsville by about 60 miles. We ought to try to get together sometime. The new school and the old school, it should be great!

lol i am down with getting together, also i just responded to your email. I am located in austin. I dont know how to test ratios, and I will not allow this guy to screw me. I already told him I am the last person who is going to get screwed on this deal. My family lives in mcallen, and edinburg, and alot in kingsville. do you know if there is any way i can test it out right when i see it? i will walk on the tranny if it is not what I am looking for. I am going to get a copy of his identification also, because i have an ugly feeling about what may happen to me.

shgilman
08-16-2006, 10:28 AM
Take it easy unloco187. It not rocket science and I can help guide you through it.
Go onto a site such as Gruppe-S or any other site that show the gear ratios for the RA spec gears. You really only need to check first gear. If that is correct then all the other gears should be correct. You can also request to talk to the guys at the shop where the tranny was refurbished and gather additional confidence there. To test, you count the number of times the input shaft turns compared to the output shaft when in first gear. Its that simple.
Good luck and let me know when the deal will be done.
My paypal account is: shgilman@msn.com.
Again, I will not touch the funds until you get the tranny installed and running. I only ask that you do not wait 5 months to get it installed like Jeremy did with this deal.
If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to let me know. My contact information is:
956-627-0593 - Hm
956-783-4689 ext. 3503 - wk
work email is stuart.gilman@fmc-na.com
Since you have family down here, we can surely get together for a few beers.
I might be up in Houston for my dyno tune if I don't go with Kingpin in Dallas. The place is called Engine Logics. Do you know them?
Sincerely,
Stuart

Unloco187,
Try giving him a call. I listed his numbers above. What I meant, is talk to the mechanic at the shop who actually did the work on the tranny. They aren't going to lie and ruin their reputation just for one customer.
The domain owner above is not the same person. Sankaveli's name is Jeremy Jouette. He also owns Jouette Computer services located in Gonzales, LA. There appears to be a website for that also.

I'm not hiding from anyone. I can even provide a map if necessary.

I'm no scammer and I certainly wasn't dodging you, Stuart. You and I both know that you lied to me when you originally told me you wanted your deposit back. You told me you had a "family emergency" but later told me you traded your car in on an STi. I used the deposit for bills since I didn't think the repair would take that long and told you from the beginning of the dispute that as soon as I found a buyer for the transmission, you would get your deposit back. I'd been waiting on the shop and they were taking an extremely long time. The transmission is done now and you're getting your money back. I never dodged you one time. I may have been slow to you and unloco187 on responses but that's because I'm online all day at work so when I'm at home, I don't normally get online. That would explain my hiatus for days at a time.

Wow, dukeduster, you're a real sleuth with your whois lookup. I'm impressed.

Also, Stuart, why aren't you insulting, cursing and threatening me like you did in all the e-mails that you sent me?

I've made arrangements to pick up the transmission from my mechanic in Baton Rouge tomorrow and drive it to Austin on Tuesday for unloco187 and have his mechanic install the transmission and test drive it before we part ways. Unloco, once you drive the car with the transmission in it you be able to immediately tell that the ratios are alot different than the factory WRX ratios. 1st gear hits almost 40mph and you fly through 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Stuart, I do formally apologize for this taking so long. I had nothing to do with the length of time for repairs and had no control over my financial situation. I was never out to scam you. I've never scammed anyone in my life and have many many people that would be willing to vouch for me. If I could have afforded the $1,000, I'd have spent it fixing the car instead of parting it out. I didn't wreck the car, I'm not sure where you got that from. The engine blew and I can't afford to repair it, that's why the transmission went up for sale in the first place.

First off, and major bump for unloca187. He has demonstated great patience and an earnst desire to facilitate the ending of this saga.
He has his new RA spec 5 spd and I have recovered my deposit. It took five months but it is done.
I understand how people can get in over the heads and find themselves in situations that they no longer have control and everything goes to hell in short order.
I feel for spankaveli. But business is business and we all have to meet our obligations that we make to others. I might be an unusual position as I am nearing the end of the long journey that we all are traveling to retirement. So money as not as an important issue for me and it is with the younger folks as they are just starting out on this long and often bumpy road. I do not envy you. I thank Jeremy for finally consumating this tranny transfer deal and I now have my deposit back. This has been an unpleasant event that I will now put behind me.
As for jeremy remarking the clearing of his name, just because you right a wrong does not absolve a person from the orginal infraction. A case in point is our "friendly" credit reporting agencies. If you default on a financial transaction, they will report it and even if make complete restitution it will stay on the record as this thread and my comments will remain unless the moderators see fit to delete it. My opinons and the chronicals remain the same and I see no justification for offering any apologies for what I have posted.
I wish Jeremy luck as he proceeds to reassemble his life after seemly taken a bad turn with a string of unfortunate events.
Its off to better things and faster subys.

OK THIS IS THE POST TO END ALL OF THIS!!!
I got this transmission from jeremy yesterday, and man o man what ordeal it was, but none of it was attributed to jeremy/spanky/spankaveli,lol. This guy is a super cool guy, and i would have absolutely no problem doing business with him again based on my experience with him yesterday. First, to start the day, this guy drove 8 hours from baton rouge, louisiana all the way to my mechanics shop here in austin texas. After that long ass drive, my mechanic starts getting to business removing my stock transmission and putting in spankys tranny. Well around 3 in the afternoon i recieve a phone call from my mechanic saying that the tranny is no good, and that it will have to be rebuilt before it will work. FACK!!!!! just like spanky was sayin. Apparently his mechanic who had the transmission for SIX DAMN MONTHS did a superb hack job on this transmission and completely messed it up. man you wouldnt believe the crap that was inside the transmission. One, was an immense amount of gasket maker, so much so that it actually was coating the gears, filled up the oil holes on the main shaft, and was in ever nook and cranny on the damn thing. two, my mechanic told me that he found something that appeared to be a broken piece of gear, but apparently it was a DAMNED BEETLE!!!! third, was an assortment of leaves. and finally, the washer for the reverse gear was just thrown in there, and by thrown in there I mean just set in the tranny and the box was closed shut. just in case you have read this thread from the beginning, the mechanic was some guy named loc at a shop in baton rouge. COMPLETE LOSER, DO NOT EVER USE HIM!!! HE TOOK FOREVER AND DID THE SHIIIITIEST JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! anyway, after recieveing this news, jeremy asked my mechanic what it would take for him to rebuild the transmission, and he paid for the rebuild. That to me makes a stand up guy. He made sure that I would be able to be out on the road that night, and i couldnt be happier now. The gearset itself was in perfect condition, it was just other minor things, like missing shims, and something called a pilot bearing had to be replaced because it was cracked to hell. anyway to make a long story a little shorter, jeremy got me a great transmission after it was rebuilt, and i couldnt be happier. The tranny shifts beautifully, and once my engine is fully broken in, i will unleash the true power of that tranny. thanks again dude, and you have definitely got yourself a friend in atx now. Anytime you are around this way be sure to hit me up.

Stuart
Actually, one can easily contact a credit reporting agency after a debt is paid and have the record removed.

As far as clearing my name, I simply wanted you to admit that I wasn't trying to rip you off or scam you. Apparently, you're too stubborn to do that.

How about I give people an example of what a level headed guy you are.

This memo is to inform you that you have 24 hours from the time and date stamp of this email to provide objective evidence of restitution intent by either commitment to a payment plan or commitment for payment in full.
Failure to do so will result in full a court press in the attempt to collect the $1000.00 debt that you owe me plus substantial litigation fees and damages. If I have to spend $3000.00 to collect that's fine because you are gonna pay big time, one way or another.
No more screwing around.
Do something Jeremy, or you are going to go down hard. I'll garnish everything you own. You won't be able to even to afford to "pay attention" by the time I'm finished. Anything that has your name on it or is connected to you by either relation or marriage will be fair game.
Ya know, I've got a bunch of vacation time stashed away. Maybe its time for a road trip....
By the way, your little pee-shooter that you keep in your jalopy doesn't scare me. First you have to have the balls to use it. All you've shown to me and others, is that you're just a spoiled brat. And the way you slink around I'm surprised you don't have road rash on your little belly.

What a wimp, your just a baby trying to play with the big boys. Prepare to pay little boy.. Your time is approaching.....

My reply, which I don't have because i used a web interface, was an offer to pay you back at $200 per month. I again explained to you my financial situation. $200 per month would have hurt me significantly but it was an attempt to show good will.

Your reply...

What an idiot Jeremy,
You have at least one person on the forums that are willing to drive to you to pick up the transmission and pay you cash and you have ignored the requests. But a hell of lot of good that would do me. You'll probably blow that money too.
I've steered two people in your direction for the tranny from the "wanted" forum. You ignore the emails.
Cut the crap, your actions speak a far different picture than your words. Proof is in the pudding. And right now your pudding stinks. Find another shoulder to cry on.
No more waiting. I'll just get in line with your other creditors that are probably filing levies and garnishments.

You don't disappear for 4 months with little to no communication. It didn't sound like you were very forthcoming with personal information, especially after the guy dropped $1,000 in your lap, sob story "my car is broken, boo-hoo" or not.

Wait, did you offer to put a bullet in him? You are clearly high class. You had his money for 4 months, what do you expect? He wasn't going to just give up.

I'm glad to see everything's chocolate, unicorns, and roses now but you weren't exactly a pillar of the trading community.

Where do you see that I said anything about a gun or a bullet? Both those quotes are his emails.

Also, I never disappeared for any period of time longer than a couple days. I responded to all of his emails within a timely manner, save when I was away from the computer. The car being broken had **** to do with the delay of repayment. Maybe you should reread the thread a bit more thoroughly.
