i was in houston and went to west end subaru. there was a white wagon (i fell in love) so i drove it.

i was amazed at how much power the car had on the bottom end compared to my 05. that extra torque made such a difference.

also, it fealt like the gearing was different... like first gear wasnt so short. so do the 04/05s have the same gearing as the 06? this car of course had the regular shifter, and i have the kartboy setup, so that MAY have had something to do with it... dunno.

i want a 2.5 block in my car now. :(

The '06 WRXs have the same gear ratios in the 5spd as the former 2.0L WRXs, however, the final drive is 3.70 in the 06's while the former 2.0L WRXs had a 3.90 final drive. With that said, the max speed in each gear is roughly the same as the 2.5L '06 WRX has a 6,500rpm redline, while the 2.0L models have a 7,000rpm redline.

Hope I didn't confuse ya... :p

Having owned an '05 and now an '06, I notice the biggest difference in 4th and 5th gears at highway speeds - much more pull with the 2.5 engine. Also, Stage 1 with a Cobb AP is more noticeable on the '06 than on the '05.

I drove the 2006 2.5i, and I thought the drive by wire was lag.

Drive by wire is an electronic throttle where previous years it was a cabled throttle set up and more responsive.

aah. yes, the throttle did feel different (from my memory) now that you mention it.

i honestly really really liked how the 06 drove and fealt versus my 05. :(

Drive by wire setups tend to me MORE responsive and smooth than drive by cable setups.

Smooth? Yes
Responsive? No
Having RPM spikes after letting off the gas fully and pushing the clutch in = slow responsiveness =P

maybe true in other setups, but sure as hell not in the '06 2.5i. Go drive one, you'll see.

I can't wait for the 08....

That will make this thread useless :)... Because the 05 and 06 are almost identical... obviousy there's SOME differences.

the 06 is really a half/model more than anything else

True, I haven't driven a subie DBW setup yet. Is it an obnoxius problem or just kinda something people have been noticing?

Here is a little clarification that might piss some people off, but I don't really care.

Drive by Wire is to Cabled Throttle as MAC is to PC.

Sure the first is more idiot proof, but I like the control the second provides.

I wouldn't call it obnoxious, but it certainly feels different than a cable throttle and takes some getting used to.
