ok i have an 06 sti, with a cat-back
i have but didnt install a UR uppipe with a 38mm tial EWG
and a helix dp

if install the dp and the ewg can i run it untuned ?

( the wg spring is set to 1 bar(14.5 psi) which is stock for an sti
will i get boost spiking ?
( i was thinking if i get the stock internal wg closed ( extra spring, or welded shut) and have the EWG to work, i can really overboost ( boost spike) can i ??

2nd if and when i get EM ( im lookin at cobb accessport) is there any downloadable tunes for tbe and ewg on an otherwise stock car ?

thanks

sorry if my questions are alittle crappy, im new with this, and i want to learn, i am not a noob though, but a noob with subaru more or less ; )

We (Cobb Tuning) have published a tuning guide and a document which explains how you can set up the stock boost control system to work with an external wastegate. Tuning EWGs is very easy to do once you understand how the closed-loop boost control system works. E-mail me christian@cobbtuning.com and ask for the tuning guide, worksheet, and document about the stock boost control system in the Subject:

Take care,

Jason, as Christian said, yes the OEM ECU can control the boost with an EWG.

I would not suggest to install this set-up without having proper tuning done.

Cheers !

I'm running a 4 port Grainger solenoid now with a reflash to control my dual port external gate. It works fine, but needed duty cycles are very low (30-40% steady state) and it requires some tweaking of the dynamics maps as well.

I think the factory ECU if tuned properly is plenty smart to control any single PWM system. Unless your aftermarket unit has two independent PWM outputs I don't think you're going to gain much.

Any change of solenoid or swapping to an external gate would require retuning.

i did the install and i was over boosting, so i took the line out that has the brass "pill restictor" and replaced it with a reg line, and now im boosting perfect ( 1 bar, 14.5)
because of my 1 bar wastegate spring, everythign is running perfect and faster ( lots of low end tq) my tuner(andy from xotic motorsports) said its fine and safer then just running a dp untuned so its like a stock car with catless dp/exhaust and and ewg

car feels great and its Fing loud !!!

thanks for everyones help, i hope this helps someone else down the road . .

feel free to pm me with any questions
