Jaxx 08-17-2006, 09:47 PM ewww the 1996 GT was only rated at 155 hp and required premium gas subiekid 08-21-2006, 10:31 PM ewww the 1996 GT was only rated at 155 hp and required premium gas And had the nasty 95/96 bumper and grill kd5ztr 08-22-2006, 02:47 AM looks cool MeanEditor 08-22-2006, 04:10 PM The car is going to be very different and I dare say, nothing like it exists in North America, or at least, very few do. If you have been over at All Wheels Driven you can see the first stage of the project. I will post some photos soon. Plus, I think the 96 LGT looks cool, kinda like a slab-sided Skyline. ooberdoob 08-22-2006, 04:26 PM And had the nasty 95/96 bumper and grill what?! my 98 is 87 just fine... i'm missing something about this 96... crash 08-22-2006, 10:23 PM how about a link to that here? MeanEditor 08-23-2006, 12:33 PM As far as I know we do not need to run premium fuel in this car. At least, I haven't been and it runs just fine. Then again, you wouldn't be able to hear knock at WOT over all the belt squeal. But that is ok sine the current motor isn't long for the car anyway. Interestingly enough I came across another LGT identical to ours getting on the freeway that had the same WOT squeal that ours does. Stay tuned. MeanEditor 08-29-2006, 04:21 PM So we just got the car back from getting a 5-speed swap. The transmission is from a turbo Liberty with RA-Spec gears. This is not as easy to swap in as it would seem but entirely essential. Driving the car is much more fun now. Here are a few teasers: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/DSCF0189.jpg Damn, look at all that oil. The car leaks from everywhere. It smokes like it's on fire whenever it stops. Oh, well that engine is not long for this car anyway... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/DSCF0195.jpg Out damn slushbox and haunt me no more! The 4EAT is not a bad tranny, but it just does not do what I want when I want it. Shifting whilst apexing makes me nervous. The gearing of the RA box is much shorter and we don't as of yet have the right ECU for this car but everything else works including the speedo and tach. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/DSCF0191.jpg The rear end. Getting the correct rear diff is esential. The Diff in the box and the rear-end have to match otherwise they will fight each other and burn out. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/DSCF0192.jpg the beast itself on the rack. The car is pretty ugly right now, but that will change very soon. SEMA is right around the corner... so what is next? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/turbo.jpg maybe some of this http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/Sleek.jpg a little bit 'o' that... Stay tuned kids. This beat down nag is getting a refit that will make it one of the most unique of its kind. MeanEditor 09-05-2006, 05:05 AM I have to say after a week or so of driving the car, the 5-speed makes all the difference. A big thanks to Barrett at All Wheels Driven for doing the work and providing the parts. And yes... the car smokes like an oil-well fire. I know, so if you see me, and this goes for all of you on this planet, please note... we are waiting on our new motor... thanks The managment. moss 09-06-2006, 04:45 PM There's better bumpers for that year Legacy than that one...definately look into them! - Keith MeanEditor 09-07-2006, 01:10 AM That isn't a good photo, and I am a ricer and I think it's HAWT! Plus, it's already sitting in my living room. xcntrk75 09-22-2006, 02:34 PM So what block is intended for this beast? You’re showing a pic of the GT30/35 rotated mount turbo kit so I’m assuming something rock solid? How many cylinders? How many liters? What internals? What about the heads, cammed, PnP? What compression ratio? Mild or wild? Curious readers want to know ;) MeanEditor 09-22-2006, 08:46 PM I don't want to give too much away but a quick look at the list of sponsors will give you some ideas, we can't shoot our wad here mind you. Also, yes that is a rotated kit, no we are not running a 30r or a 35r, I have done something much more dastardly. I hope you can dance. It is pretty wild looking, or at least it is getting there. There will be some custom graphics for the SEMA show by a certain LA DJ/ graf artist. After it sits pretty for a week it will be back to the NW for Subiefest for a run around the tarmac in the Time Attack, whether it will compete or not is still up for consideration. In the end... you will just have to read the magazine. MeanEditor 10-17-2006, 12:53 AM Ok quick update. We are under some serious construction. The motor and turbo are in. Waiting on a few bits before there is fire in the combustion chambers. All the suspension is on and the car is all primer and waiting for final assembly and for final paint. The car is freaking awesome. Kelly at Rallitek is the freaking MAN. The attention to detail is amazing and it looks better than I could ever have imagined. We are already talking about our next project. AllWheelsDriven.net 12-08-2006, 04:19 PM Any pics of the car after the transformation? Haven't seen anything yet and have been searching around. Did it make it to the Subiefest? Glad that we could be a part of the project.:D Barrett- www.allwheelsdriven.net reddevil 01-14-2007, 04:15 AM baBump MeanEditor 02-19-2007, 05:55 PM UPDATE: If you have seen the current issue then you already know: Project Legacy did not make it to SEMA. Here is what happened. Like any car destined to be part of the biggest automotive show in North America, we had just a month or so to install the engine and turbo kit and paint the car before it was to be shown at the SEMA show. No problem, right? We took the car to the new IPD/Rallitek shop just as the new motor arrived from Crawford Performance. The Crawford motor was built using their S2 EJ257 short block with custom CP pistons to accommodate our phase I DOHC heads. The bottom end uses stock STI rods and crank which has been balanced and blue printed. We also had a Perrin rotated mount kit. Instead of using the 30R or even the 35R we decided to use a GT2860RS, also known as the disco potato, which Perrin had been experimenting with. The idea was to use a turbo that would be well matched to the rest of our drivetrain. To plumb the turbo we had a complete Perrin manifold setup with their equal-length headers and rotated uppipe and downpipe. The intercooler was again a Perrin piece. Since the GT28 can flow lots of air we chose the Perrin FMIC which also fills up our massive JDM air-dam. For fueling and tuning we had several options. The original plan was to use the stock side feed injectors, which, when modified, flow just as much fuel as a modified STI injector. The STI injectors are a direct fit for the 1997 LGT fuel rail. We also installed a Walbro 255lph pump with the aid of a Supra single turbo install kit. For a BOV we used a Worx tuning adjustable unit venting to atmosphere. For engine management we had a full AEM standalone system, however, we did not have time to install this unit, so a Perfect Power 6 takes care of fueling and timing changes. The exhaust system is an Invidia catback for the STI/WRX that has been lengthened six inches for the longer Legacy chassis. Installing the turbo kit and engine was surprisingly easy. The header and uppipe and downpipe fit perfectly once we notched and re-welded the subframe. The intercooler took a little more work to install but it went on easily and can be bolted directly to the stock bumper beam. We did have to get creative with the pipes which take an unconventional route straight through the battery box, requiring the battery be moved to the trunk. Kelly Hibner, who did all the install work, even detailed and painted many of the engine parts like the alternator, intake manifold, and power steering pump and brackets. With everything together, the car fired right up, however, we found that the modified injectors were just too big for the break-in-boost levels (lbs. with a Tial 44mm external gate). To remedy this, we installed a set of stock STI side feed yellow injectors. Initial tuning was done for break-in miles only which limited us to below 4,000 rpm for the first 500 miles and then 5,000 rpm for second 500 miles. Because of the limited time for tuning, we didn't really have time to shake the car down. However, that wouldn't matter. The weekend before the show, editor Travis Geny undertook the task of painting the car himself, in the garage. This did not go so well. Since this was his first time ever using a paint gun, with 40deg ambient temps, the paint turned out... BADLY. To remedy this, HUGE stickers were slapped down the side of the car. Eric and Jay of Fleet Sign and Graphics, spent a sleepless night the night before the car was to be shipped installing stickers on the ill-fated Legacy. While the stickers covered much of the bad paint, there was still a lot left uncovered. In the end the truck driver would decide the car's fate as he cracked our fiberglass bumper on a winch hook. With the damage seriously done and no time to get the car fixed, that was it. The car would not be heading to SEMA. Our 2.5RS would go in its stead. Since the show we are somewhat stuck with project Legacy. We are in need of better engine management. The PP6 just does not have the ability to control an OBDII engine for both street and track driving, it can do either or, but not both it would seem. We need to get the AEM installed. So while we get our "EM" situation sorted, we will have to shift our focus to other cars in the fleet. The good news is that the turbo comes on very quickly and the motor revs like butter. The exhaust note is so very cool and the great thing is, no one knows what the car is. Hopefully, in the coming months we can change that. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/IMG_5272.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/IMG_5318.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/IMG_5315.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/IMG_5309.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/IMG_5306.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/subiesportlegacy24.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39/tgeny79/subiesportlegacy23.jpg redlegacygt 02-20-2007, 09:06 AM very awesome! Robson 03-16-2009, 12:18 AM Just wanted to give an update on this car. The owner that purchased it decided after breaking the transmission to part the car out. I will start the parting out tomorrow. Once the car is torn down I will build my own car in the shell. Sorry for the bad news, but when he lost over a month with a transmission shop getting the wrong parts it was the final straw for him. Robson 03-21-2009, 03:09 AM well the car is now a shell. He is parting out pretty much everything. Lude2Sube 03-22-2009, 02:00 AM Damn i miss my 98 gt now.
