I'm resurrecting an old thread because I thought it was a good idea.

I've destroyed my original plug after draggin it unknown miles, so I figured I'd better do something before winter hits.

Here's the outlet I used for this project. It's for marine applications, so it should last awhile.

On my 06 wagon, I used the black piece of plastic located on the drivers side lower grill to mount the outlet.

There's nothing behind the plastic. Deciding to drill a 1 7/8" hole into my car was the hard part. :(

Position the original plug with the center ground prong facing up and cut it off. You'll be left with three wires that need to be seperated. However you do this part, the important part to remember is which wires goes where. The center wire is for the ground (green). The other two need to be labeled somehow to retain proper polarity.

Strip the wires

And insert them into the outlet. At this point, the block heater cable should already be run through you new hole along with the rear protective rubber boot and the retainer ring that holds the outlet (sorry, no pics).
