I picked up a Rallitek mount yesterday, with the intent of installing it on my Forester. However, after looking online and seeing a thread on RS25, I've decided to extend it and redo the car->mount, er mount, so tha it can go in the lower air duct on my Forester. I've come up with an idea of how to do this, however I have some reservations as to whether or not it is safe/will work. This mount is going to be a platform for 2 Hella Rallye 3000 compacts and 2 Hella 500 Fogs (2 driving more driving are going in the grille ;)). That is quite a bit of wieght, so this mount has to be pretty damn sturdy. Here are my main questions.

Bumper beam: I havn't found a definate answer on here to this question. When people mount things to the bumper beam, I presume they drill through both sides of the welded "box" and use a long bolt and put a washer/nut on one side, with a washer/bolt head on the other? Would doing this same system, except with the weight on the bottom be putting too much strain on the beam?

The more "sturdy" part of the mount I am planning is to connect to the lower radiator support/frame. Basically, the part that the radiator sits on top of. My question is whether or not putting a bolt through this would compromise the rigidity of the frame (if it is in fact the frame. There would be a total of 4-5 bolts going through this piece.

I do not doubt that the frame/support can hold the weight of the bar and lights, but am more worried about whether or not it would be a bad idea to drill through that metal.

Here is a diagram I threw together to help show what I"m talking about. The Gold/Brown is where the ratiator sits, and the blue is the proposed new part of the mount. The long white things are bolts.

Looking forward to some answers :)

Turns out it wasn't necessary . Just bought a primitive racing mount designed for the forester, so the Rallitek mount is up for sale.
