How much current should the inductor side of a typical 30A/12V automotive relay pull? I'm seeing about 1.8A, is that about right?

That seems like it's almost 10 times too high. Do you have a part number or package for it?

Here is a 40A for reference:

It's coil is 80 ohms, which is 0.15A. What's the resistance of your relays coil?

1.8A definitely sounds too large.
