I just claybarred my '04 WRB WRX for the first time since new. In fact this is the first time I've ever claybarred anything. I just wanted to post up for any claybar noob (like myself) that this process is EXTREMELY worth it and is not nearly as hard or scary as you might think. I've read horror stories about guys that don't use enough lubricant or guys that rub crap into their paint and scratch it....so I'm writing the exact opposite post.
You have to be a mental patient to screw this up. I bought the Mother's California Gold Claybar kit. It comes with a bottle of detailer, a claybar (duh) and a small bottle of Mother's carnauba wax. The detailing spray actually smells like cinnamon so it feels like your wife drug you into a country craft store while you're working. My car is smoother than the day I bought it. The paint is literally smoother than the window glass!
CN: Claybarring is not hard. Claybarring is extremely rewarding. Claybar your car if you haven't already.

Pictures do not show how well this stuff works. I am not convinced.

First of all, my camera sucks. I mean, that barely looks WRB on the screen so I apologize for the POS I call a digital camera.
Second, it's not up to me to convince you...and you're not going to see the crap a claybar is going to take up with a picture anyway. You'd have to see the before/after shots of the bar and the tiny specks of junk it pulled out of my car that I had just hand washed moments before.
I'm not trying to sell you anything. The point of the post was this. I read about guys that claybar their car regularly. It always sounded intimidating to me. I posted as an average joe, not a detailing guru, that claybarring is easy and well worth it.

here's my car after using mother's claybar kit. it was my first time using it also. the pictures dont do it justice, the paint looks brand new after clay barring and is smooth to touch.

We've finally got some consistant rain out here so I have been quite the avid mud slinger as of late, and this sounds like something I can use. Great post -

I was amazed at the difference in the paint with my bugeye. I will do this to the STI before it's final coat of wax for the winter.
