Has anyone else experienced this. I mentioned it to the dealer when I first picked the vehicle up and received the expected comment that it is normal as you are burning off oil/grease from construction (as I expected). I know have 600 miles on it and, while it has decreased a bit, it still seems to have a burnt rubber smell coming through the vents. It is most noticable when I come to a stop but I have sniffed around under the hood and don't smell anything there.
Any advice?
Thx,

Subaru uses a greenish undercoating to prevent corrosion while the vehicle is in travel/storage before it is delivered to the customer. I forget the name of it right now. This will give a burnt smell for the first 4k to 5K miles.
Of course, regular car fires can occur at any time, so if you smell something burning, keep an eye under the Baja just in case.

Ours did the same thing, and a subie rental we had also did. Ours had the smell after a lot of driving for at least 10-20 k.

i had the smell for a couple thousand miles.
did you get a manual tranny? keep in mind that subarus, all subarus, have notoriously smelly clutches when ridden. my roommate's sti is the worst when it comes to that. my baja isn't as bad but it'll still give off the smell if i accidentally ride it.

That eases my mind (if not my nose). Our last Subie didn't do that but it didn't have that greasy gook all under the car either. I wonder if some dealers wash it off?
Yeah, it is a manual but it is definitely not a clutch smell. More burnt rubber/grease smell. Not incipient fire type smell either. I just keep checking the belts as my other cars tend to make that smell when the belt needs re-tensioning!

mine still smells sometimes and it has 4200 on it. I test drove a new suzuki yesterday and you should have seen the smoke comming off of that thing....looked like it was on fire (I know not a subaru but just saying every manuf. has some coatings on stuff)
