Just curious, has anyone ever had a rear diff leak to empty either from a bad seal or a loose drain plug? What does it sound like?

it would start to howl around corners...especially if it has an LSD in it. Otherwise you'll get lots of gear whine before the bearings actually run dry and sieze.

There's a rumor it sounds like Keith's mom... :p

Ginseng, yes, I'm serious. I don't recommend this, but after you drive your car on the freeway and come home, put your hands near the rear diff. It'll be hot, so don't touch it. Now, consider that diff/gear lube is basically same thing and provides the same functions and benefits as the engine's oil. Now imagine your engine with no oil and driving it.

IF the rear diff IS dry and you drive it, it will heat up, sieze, and blow apart (hense the tink tink tink bit).

Ahh, crap. It also looks like I need some sort of square wrench to open the filler port plug. Any idea what the spec is on the wrench? Looks like I'd better check the level of my rear diff fluid.

Just use a 1/2 inch square breaker bar.

Or, lacking that, a 1/2" socket wrench with no socket.

reivision using a breaker bar and torque wrench for everything. I think he sleeps with them under his pillow ;)

Got it...1/2" breaker bar and torque wrench. I'd assume the filler and drain ports are the same size, no?

they should be....don't see why they wouldn't be.
