View Full Version : Old School Forum
This forum is obviously for anything non-technical having to do with any Subaru with a model year pre 2002.
Just make sure it's non-technical... if it is indeed technical please locate the most appropriate technical forum to post in.
If it's neither non-technical and not model year specific then you can post in the General Community forum. But only post there as a last resort.

Are you kidding? I took one look at the new car on the SOA website and made a mad dash to the dealer. Engine transplants are do-able. Head lights are another story all together. At least when we're talking WRX proportions.:p
Kostamojen 01-01-2002, 05:22 AM I'm thinking that this forum isnt surviving...

outback2.5HO 03-14-2002, 05:36 AM Food for thought (Old & New School)....
Many Impreza owners forget (or don't know) that the AWD system and running gear used is based on Legacy technology. That's right, the EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, EJ25 and most of their varients saw use in Legacies before Imprezas
( starting in 1990). For the real Old School that know our roots, we don't discount that fact. The Legacy cars that helped create the Impreza running gear and platform, bridged the "gap" between the EA82 (1.8 oil pukers )in the GLs and Loyales of the 80s-94. The result is something that all Subaru owners should be proud of, far better technology and a better car overall. The advances in engine management (OBD II), fuel injection, ABS, suspensions, safety, and the all wheel drive systems (vs transfer case or vaccum systems) are far superior, in many ways, to all much of the "old school" technology. Now we get Limited slip in much of the lineup from the factory, 212 hp H-6 engines (don't forget the 2.7 XT6 or the 3.3 SVX) in the Outback and GT, 227hp Turbo rally cars (WRX) , as well as more options available than ever. Many of didn't care if our Subies had bunwarmers, dual moonroofs, a 12 disc changer, or leather, we just wanted a car that would drive well in the snow (rain or mud) and last a long time...
There are '85 4wd GL wagons out there with 500k+ miles, 90s Legacies with 300+k miles. I have seen several Imprezas with close to 200k, still driving fine. My '97 Outback has more than 120k, and can still rip down gravel roads at 70 with ease, or take me to places that cars shouldn't go. My 90 Legacy is about to be reincarnated into a rally car, after 185k miles, with many miles of hard driving left..
We should all be glad as Subaru owners that our cars have such a firm foundation to keep building the walls of something great. Starting with the Legacy Turbo endurance record (ej22, 1990), to the Impreza rally campaign (93-current), the introduction of the DOHC 2.5 in the Outback,GT (96), the Introduction of the 2.5RS and Forester (98), to the '02 WRX and some of the upcoming models, our brand keeps getting better. The marks of auto history have been made made in the last 20 or so years, and our niche has been established. If we keep up the interest in the new products, maybe soon we'll get our 6 speed transmissions (in all models) with the center diff dial, or the option of a dual range transfer case (old school). How about a good supercharger from the factory...
Just don't forget your roots, and don't buy an Audi...
Great~taste~Bloke 03-19-2002, 05:04 PM In the Uk we have two main names for the new gen shape 'the fugly' and 'bug eyes'! What names do you have for them?

North Ursalia 03-21-2002, 01:28 AM Usually "the quick ugly Impreza" :). The non-turbo RS's and L's are referred to as "the slow, good-looking ones." In your case, you get the best of both worlds :D! Yours is both good looking *and* faster than the New Age WRX! I'm coming over for a test drive :)!
