Normally, I'm pretty laid back about things - so take this with a grain of salt if you wish. I'm aware of the issues with hand-laid hoods, and a little bit of weave-mismatch happens sometimes.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j119/liupj/IMG_7555.jpg

But what happens when it looks like someone stuck their finger through the weave and the company just puts clearcoat on top of it to seal it?

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j119/liupj/IMG_7543.jpg

It may look like that one, or how about this one?

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j119/liupj/IMG_7553.jpg

A closer shot...

Now, you're probably thinking, hey liupj! Stop being so anal! Thats just a little weave issue. I assure you, its as if their hood makers decided to stick their finger through to see the other side. This picture below describes what a defect in a Seibon hood really looks like... complete junk.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j119/liupj/IMG_7545.jpg

How about what it looks like in bad lighting conditions?

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j119/liupj/IMG_7546.jpg

The only response from Seibon "Sorry, it happens". I don't believe it happens to this extent. The hood is either going to the trash or I'm taking a huge loss reselling it. Anyone in their right mind wouldn't buy this for new pricing, even if its just been sitting in a box for the last month. After patiently waiting for response from Seibon (for about a month now), thats the only response I've gotten.

I'm not sure about fitment quality, as I refuse to put this on my car. However, the build quality is behind bad for the 06 hoods. Thumbs down. Stay away.

I would expect better from Seibon myself as well. Sorry about the problems your going through with them, they really should pay closer attention to customers needs. They should know by now not to ignore one person, it can go a long way. Especially with a site like this, where if a company does bad. People will know and they will lose business.

Thanks for the input Brian!

I originally ordered the hood through CVR Motorsports. Lucky and Chris were really quick on their feet and with shipping, and have been trying to help me iron this out. Good guys.

Too bad Seibon can't back the product.

I've had serious issues with Seibon as well. The weave on my hood was great, it was awesome for a while, but like after two months some bubbles in the weave itself formed. I asked them about warranting it, and they said just to take it to a body shop. THe bubbles were prety minor so I didn't worry about it. However, a year or so later, the resin in the weave is breaking down and parts of the hood basically go from yellow discoloration to actually turning a dusty white (imagine salt water drying on the hood and leaving that white salt powder... except it won't go away). So far I haven't been able to convince them to warranty it.

After discussing it with some people (vendors and people who actually make c/f pieces) they are certain it is from poor manufacturing (like too much resin), but the word is that Seibon doesn't usually deal with customers directly, they only like to warranty stuff if you go through the vendor you bought it from. So... that is what I would do, get in contact with the place you bought it from and have them deal with Seibon for you

X-Rex:

Yeah, I figured as much :(. CVR couldn't really get the message across to them (have been working with CVR for the past month to get this through Seibon, unfortunately no results.)

This is the reason I haven't bought a CF hood for mine. I have a small ripple on the very tip of my hood from bumping someone in the rain and a cf hood would be (read: "should be") the most cost effective way since it won't have to be painted to match my OBP, but with bubbles and yellow/white discoloration, I might as well leave it as is.

However, if you'd like to get rid of it for like $100 I'll take it off your hands.

first off... you "silver CF" is called Texalium... :) and I've been playing with that material few times... Texalium won't stand any heat... especially with the resin that Seibon use...

for Liupj :

I'm sorry for you buddy... :( are you coming to Dave's BBQ this weekend? we'll talk about this okay ;)

I think Seibon makes a few different quality hoods. I had purchased a AA quality hood for my STi, but paid a little extra for it. There were no wrinkles at all in the weave..flawless actually. The single A quality hoods might have a few wrinkles, but it's normal from what I've seen.

Uh, excuse me, but does that mean if you have one of these hoods, you shouldn't drive the car when it's sunny, or park it outside if the sun's out?

Dunno :( - Trying to find out. It really depends on the resin they use and the clear.

I'm still trying to iron this out with CVR+Seibon, but its going slow :(

Hey cool, an update!

CVR has been able to get a hold of Seibon now that this is posted. I'm more or less curious to why it took this type of action to get Seibon to respond.

CVR has been behind me 100% for this whole ordeal, and hopefully we'll get some resolution soon.

Seibon = wet, poorly made, bad fitment carbon fiber

I have heard if you get a CF hood and have it clear coated it will last longer and won't get dull and faded. Any truth to this?

so far, the best CF hood and trunk are made by Do-Luck... their quality is top-notch even though they cost an arm and leg

i purchased a seibon reverse scoop recently, which came direct from seibon. it was packaged extremely well, with a sticker on the box stating "this product was in perfect condition when it left the factory blah blah". the box was in perfect shape, zero damage to it, yet the scoop has two very noticeable chips in the front. there is no way it was damaged in shipping, so it was wrapped up and shipped that way. i expected more.

their trunk didn't fit my 06 sti... tried 3 different ones right @ their warehouse [two 2x2 twill and one 1x1 twill] i finally gave up... i still want a cf trunk, so i'm thinking about vis...

this is really disappointing. i had a seibon hood before on my celica and i was really pleased with the weave and quality. later because of an accident, i ended up with a VIS hood, which I didn't think was that great.

i think seibon has grown a lot in the past years, but that's no excuse for poor customer service and trunks that don't fit. i hope they take care of your problem, and they start making some trunks that fit!

For those wondering, CVR took care of me.

Seibon screwed up twice (actually sent the WRONG hood the 2nd time). I will not be purchasing another Seibon peice again. So much for customer care on behalf of Seibon.

I purchased my seibon cf hood for my impreza about a week ago from a local vendor. Came in and the weave is perfect EXCEPT for a small little scratch?( I don't know what to call it ) on the corner of the hoodscoop about the size of my thumb. It MAY have been shipping damages, may not have been, but it's not NOTICEABLE at all and I won't be replacing it,bitching etc.

HOWEVER, fitment wasn't so great. The hood sits a little off around the front particularily where the corner of the hood meets the headlights. Also the holes for the windshield fluid nozzles are MUCH too small and I could not get them in. I'm going to have to dremel the hole to a size adequate to fit the nozzles in myself.

Well, a year after and damn do I ever have to eat my words. My hood is in horrible shape.

Theres odd dimples forming on the hood, discoloring along the edges in many places, cracks forming all around the hoodscoop and on the hoodscoop. Parts of the weave seem to just be falling apart pretty much.

Very very upset and disappointed. Always thought that Seibon was quality stuff, but this changed my mind. Will not be buying Seibon again.

Maybe everyone knows, maybe they don't, but Seibon is manufactured in China and shipped here. You can only expect so much.

I have an 06 Seibon CF hood on my car and sure enough after about a year its falling apart. Dimples and little bumps are forming all over it and the cracks are everywhere. I think tha the shape may have been a bit much for their abilities at the time. Good luck for everyone else with one of these ugly things.

anyone tried contacting Seibon about this long term behavior? I don't have one so I haven't but I would be interested to see their take on it.

It sounds to me as if there is still opportunity for them to make it right.
