I'm not an expert, but I do spend a lot of time at a drag stip. I've asked guys down there and have gotten pretty much the same anwser from all of them, for every 100 lbs. you can figure on taking 1/10 of a second off of a quarter mile time. I probably have 75-85 lbs. stereo equipment and I can hardly tell a difference.

Just a little more than 74lbs will and a little less than 76lbs... :D

Sorry, just had to

but in truth it depends on where the weight is and what your doing, such as autocrossing or Drag racing. Weight and placement can make a big difference.

about 70lbs of the weight is in the trunk. the other 5lbs is under my seats from amps. i haven't noticed my car is slowed down at all.

Your car will be 3/40th of a second slower in the quarter mile. You don't notice your car being slowed down because 0.075 second is a very short time, and most people can't feel it.

ok. sounds good. hehe. if its only 1hp i'm loosing i think i can live with it. my car doesn't feel slower or handle any slower. i guess my stereo system can stay :D

I dunno. These numbers seem slightly optimistic. I mean, have you guys every driven the car with 4 passengers inside (not including driver)? That's an extra... say... 600 lbs. By using the equation below.. its saying your car would only be .4 slower in the 1/4 mile. It feels like the car is .4 slower 0-10! Auto-xing with a passenger and w/o one back to back really shows how noticable weight reduction is. The car is more sprightly, brakes quicker, higher grip, better accel.

so if i drive alone most of time and i only weigh 110lbs + 70-75lbs of stereo i'm only weighing down my car 180-185 lbs. hehe. i know of some people that weigh more than that. so i think i should be good then.

If you're going to carry extra weight, put it to work. Put it as far to the rear as possible to approach a 50/50 weight distribution.

A full tank of gas weighs about 90lbs so as long as you drive around with 1/6 of a tank of gas then the 75lbs worth of stereo equipment will be negligible.:alien:

You won't notice a tenth of a second...but if you are trying to run with your system "bumpin" you will be drawing HP Away from the motor, alternators today can take up to 12HP to turn.

I've always gone by the rule of 100lbs = 1/10 of a second quarter mile

Do you notice a performance difference when you fill your tank compared to when it is nearly empty? If not, you won't notice the extra weight of the ICE.

I know this sort of formula wouldn't work for more than a few hundred pounds in either direction, and there does seem to be some validation with the difference between 02 and 01 RS's, but a 0lb rs doing a 13s 1/4 makes me chuckle

A gallon weights about 8lbs... I looked it up on google and it's actually 8.34lbs

An RS holds 15.9 gallons of gas.

15.9 x 8.34 = 132.606 lbs

Ummm... I think you should look it up again 8.34 lbs per gallon just happens to be the density of water and we all know that gas floats in water because its less dense.

I just searched and found a rough density for gas of about 6 pounds per gallon but found an exact density of 0.721 g/cc which works out to exactly 43.26 kg or 95.17 lbs for a full 60 litre gas tank.

Not that anybody really cares

why have 75lbs. get some quick tubes and build your own 20lb subs. or go to hsureasearch.com and buy a 20something lb sub.

my friend has a 20soemthing pound 15 using the quick tube and it is great. he is into loud slumping and it makes plenty of dBs to please someone who isnt into competition but wants to wake up the neighbors.
