So we all know that the EJ series powers our cars. Whether EJ20, EJ22, or EJ25...

I understand how the numbers describe the litres, as in EJ20 = 2.0 litres...

But what is the meaning of EJ? Is that an abreviation? "EJaculation25?"

Thanks

I've never known engine designations to mean much, beyond being opaque codes (modulo displacement info and presence of various extra features like turbos)...EJ20, EJ25, B16, B18, SR20DET, etc.

It's just a series designation... used to be all EA, now EJ.

E = engine

J = family

and the numbers after the two letter designator are the displacement only on the XT6, justy, legacy, and impreza here in america. Prior to that they just got what appears to be an arbitrary code.
