My buddy asked what the difference was in a WRX vs an STI, so I started putting a list and costs together from parts and info I found on the internet. Would you guys help me with this please? What am I missing (besides labor and shipping costs)?

-----------

OK... here's a challange for everyone. Let's see what it would cost in parts alone to convert a WRX into an STI. Here's what I have so far:

125 Fog Covers
120 Hood Scoop
452 Front Lip
510 Under Spoiler
260 Side Skirts
805 4 Pot Brakes
125 Clear Light Kit
950 Turbo
249 Intercooler Hoses
025 Intercooler Spray Nozzles
363 Radiator Hose
927 Intercooler
604 Front Strut Bar
210 Motor & Trans Mounts
279 Shift Kit
607 Cam Kit
650 Sti Gauge Kit
150 Floor Mats
110 Titanium Shifter
110 Pedal Set
450 Control Arm Set
1900 Differential Kit
1500 Seats (front & back)
???? 6 speed tranny
???? Exhaust
???? Rear Window Wiper
???? 17inch rims and tires
020 STi Badge
???? Other misc small stuff...
---------------------------------------
11501 Total

What can I add to this?

The 6-spd transmission? The seats? :)
AVCS? ;)

Well I have a few here, Struts, Springs, Head Lights, Wheels, oil cooler. These are just a few of the things to add. The conversion cost of the tranny alone is around $14,000 just to give you an idea of the costs. That is what it cost the subaru rally team to upgrade the Group N WRX tranny to the 6 speed.

Aha, can't believe I forgot the seats! The tranny cost seems extreme though. What would a replacement cost for a stock STi tranny in Europe?

Keep em coming guys, this is good stuff!

But wouldn't you rather have the real thing?

STi, there is no substitute!

Maybe STi stands for:

Synthesis
Technically
Impossible

i don't know the prices, but I think these could be added to the list:
rear wiper
exhaust
toll card holder (beside cup holder)
switches for headlight, IC mister etc...

yeah, you really need to replace the entire engine to do it right.

805 4 Pot Brakes

The stock Brembo caliper and pads cost a lot more than that. More like 2 grand.

Waiting looks like the best way to go... and if the plan is to go crazy with mods... then the 2002 2.5RS sounds like a good enough platform. Guess I'll have to wait for Vishnu's kit in January to see what's really up ;)

Your list is great, but remember, you dont price the entire part. All you can count for the price is the difference between the stock part and the STI part. So the total will be substancially smaller.
