well my rear view mirror is garbage.....anyone ever tried to r and r one before?

You mean the autodimming mirror? It's not unusual for them to go bad, a number of people have posted about them failing (although mine is still ok). It's very easy to remove it, just unplug the electrical connector from the rear and then turn the mirror 90 degrees to the left and it will come off. Installation is the reverse of removal.
The mirror cannot be fixed once it no longer dims, you need a new one.
