Hi everyone,

I found some near me selling a very low milage (<8k mi) '97 L Wagon. The price is right, and I thought this would make for a great daily driver, while saving me enough $$$ that in the spring I can get either a rally beater to learn to race on, or a new motorcycle to replace my old Honda. (I havn't decided which I would rather have yet....)

Anyway, I wanted to know if this is generally a good model & year (no major mechanical problems), or what specifically I should look out for when I go to see it later today.

The only thing that comes to mind is a hesitation problem on some 97 5-speed Subaru's. You can read the Technical Service Bulletin on this web page (http://www.toad.net/~rrubel/bulletin.html) .

Otherwise, it should be a very good car as long as it was properly maintained. Wow, less than 8,000 miles?

edit: I don't know if it's a concern to you, but it doesn't have ABS.

would be a nice, decent commuter car... if that's your intention...

if the price is right... inspect it... then buy it...

low mileage like that is a rare thing...

I have one and it has been fine. I noticed a little of the hesitation problem but it has gone away.
You can always upgrade to disc brakes with junkyard legacy parts. Upgrade wheels and front brakes from an RS, etc.
With low mileage like that, how can you go wrong?
The 2.2l has decent power. Not fast, but not slow either.

I test drove it last nite and really liked it. Not exactly powerful, but a lot better pull at the high end than I was expecting. Should be more than fine for a daily driver. And at only $10k, I'll have more than enough $$$ left over to pick up a second car in the spring to rally with :)
