How likely is it that the sti or evo seven will even come to the us? i mean maybe like ten years is a definate or whatever, but how likely is it that they will come wihtin a few years?
some peopl tell me the evo 7 has been announced, some tell me the evo 7 isnt coming.
this is the reply i got from subaru about the sti:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your continued interest in Subaru products.

Subaru is considering the feasibility of an STi version of the WRX for future model years. But, we do not have any definite plans at this time. If an STi version of the WRX becomes available in the United States, it would probably not be for a couple of model years. Since we are just beginning to market the WRX to the US consumers, it is too early to confirm the likelihood of offering an STi version in the US.

Even though magazine articles state that the STi version is coming to the US, the decision to bring the STi here has not been officially established yet. The magazines were a little premature with their 'announcement.' It was based on our statement at a press event that if the WRX is well received by the US buying public, we would look seriously at marketing a US version of the STi.

We appreciate that you took the time to contact us. I will forward your suggestion to offer an STi version of the WRX in the US to our Product Planning Department for their review and consideration. Thanks again!!

The comment from SOA, seems to answer your question regarding the STI, as for the EVO I would hazard a guess that the same answer would apply. If it comes it comes, if it don't it don't. No biggie, even though I would give a kidney for an STI.

That email from SOA is just thier current form response. Mirrors what they said about the WRX up until January 2001. :)

The "official" announcement when it comes will be a surprise. I wouldn't doubt if it will be less than 1 month before the first STi is delivered. They don't want to cut into WRX sales, hence, no announcement yet. :)

Be patient- it will come- Oct 03 at the ABSOLUTE latest according to my sources.

well, I just got back from the car show here in Boston, and I asked about the EVO.

I was told that it'll come next fall. power numbers unknown...because they may have to put a different engine than they have now, in it... but it should be about $30k, slightly under

Well I think that the STi will be here soon. Now that mitsubishi has stated that the evo will be here around oct 02. As for making a different motor for that car, no way that would take too much money and time to do, they will do what subaru did and tune down the cars performance.

I'm saving my money for an STi, in the meantime I'll be lovin my WRX.

I wouldn't count on anything. Don't waste time driving a POS just because you are waiting for the STi. But if I remember correctly you drive a RSX, so your ok until it comes.

I was at the dealership and saw the actual letter stating that orders and deposits can be taken on the STI starting in Oct. 2002. This may be changed though, depending on emission testing and approval, just like the WRX.. had to be detuned to meet requirements. Let's all hope for sooner than later!!!!

about the mitsubishi quote, it is in the new issue of sportcompactcar. I heard from a dealer the car will be here in Oct 02. Didn't the american wrx actually have more horsepower than the european model and like 20 less than japanese model. I would really be surprised to see the engine de-tuned, except to get it to lev status.

From what I heard, the WRX was originally to be released with around 240hp, but emissons weren't up to par for some reason, hince the extra cats and silencers. That's why you get a great increase if you put a new turbo-back exhaust on... look at the J-Spec and you'll see what I am talking about.

As far as the extra cat goes from the suabru stuff I have it said that even the japanese wrx has the pre cat.
