Yes there will be a 2003 WRX. Subaru won't cut a vehicle after a year of offering it to the North American market.

Where did you hear that???

I am almost positive that the model years usually go up in increments of one, and that usually happens (pretty much) on an annual basis.

Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

SO, i guess the question for all the wrx buyers is, do i get the present wrx or wait for the 2003 model???? any figures on price changes, cosmetics, or spec changes to the car??? (i'll probly end up getting the 02 rex cause im impatient anyway)

Yah, but it could be as much as another full year before it comes out.

Re: to wait or buy now... I say buy now!!! It's a FANTASTIC car, they can easily be had for $500 over invoice (or less), and interest rates are hard to beat at the moment. I highly doubt that there will be any significant changes for next year's WRX, certainly nothing that would affect performance. Wait... okay, there is one thing that they could do to significantly change performance (without having much impact on cost) and that would be to change the stock tires from RE-92's to almost anything else <hehe> (those tires can't even stick to tape). I doubt that'll happen though so... go to your dealer, buy a 2002 WRX and start having fun!

See you at the autocross, Joe

it would be really nuts to only offer for one year, unless it was plagued by mechanical problems and became the posterchild lemon ;-)

Even if it was a lemon it wouldn't be pulled for atleast 3 or 4 years. A car manufacturer would have to try and re-coop some of it's initial costs before it pulled the plug completely.

Where did people get this in their heads that Subaru was NOT gonna offer the WRX next year???

my guess for 2003 would be new 17 inch upgrade, possible a gear revision like the ausi wrx, maybe a sunroof, but thats probably it. oh and it will be out in august or so:)

I would never buy a new wrx that had a sunroof on it if they made that an option. That would compromise the rigidity of the body in my opinion.

You do know that some new age imprezas in Japan come with a sunroof don't you? I think that Subaru can do it without losing rigidity, but I don't care because I don't really like sunroofs.

i went to the dealership couple days ago..i asked the saleman when will be the next allocation, he said SOA stop producing the 2002 model already...and he said the next allocation could be 2003...which is about 2-3 months later...i asked him what the difference will be...he is not too sure.
IS THIS TRUE?? i dont know...thats what he said...

45 days from assembly line to delivery is common. But since other markets will get theirs first there is no real guage as to when they will start to ship to North America.

Well, what I've seen of the 03, it might have... re-gearing, slightly different grill and headlights, and a radio with a bult-in clock.

You guys all need to be drug tested.

Stop 2002 production? Have you looked at a calendar? It isn't even 2002 yet. Even if they switch over was in march there is still January and February to go.

Grrrrrrrrrroooooooan!

That's not entirely impossible. The '01 Impreza's stopped production in the late fall/early winter of '00. It depends when the '03 Imprezas will hit North America.

from what i heard, the 2002 north american WRX is the same body/chassis as the STI..that is why there is no sunroof...what we get standard here in the US is what people overseas pay a whole lot more for...so the JDM wrx may have a sunroof, but the STI doesnt..the STI body is known to be stiffer, so it makes sense. but that doesnt mean the North American wrx is full out STI, it is just the body....not suspension, engine and all the other goodies...now that is what i have heard. if i am wrong, dont shoot the messenger!

Uhhhh, no. There's only one body for the GD8, there are not two separate ones (one STi and one JDM WRX). There is room for a sunroof in the front bubble on a WRX, there just isn't room for as big a sunroof as on the GC8. The JDM WRX pictures I've seen with sunroof have a small sunroof, that fits between the windshield and the support brace.

Two different bodies?? Do you understand the engineering and (more importantly) certification of that? For such a small company, that would be rediculous.

dude, the sunroof in the RS is TINY!!

I can barely stand up through it...and I'm a skinny bastard... Seriously, though, the sunroof on my RX-7 was bigger, and I thought that one was small...

what he said.

I've read more than one review that referred to the G*67 sunroof as a "mailslot"

Comparitively speaking, the RS sunroof is "big" vs. the GD8 JDM sunroof. I agree the GC8 sunroof isn't the biggest out there, but at least we have one. (Neener!:))
