I was out shopping over the weekend, and saw something I have never seen. An Isuzu Impulse, a 1992 I think. Red, turbo, AWD, pretty neat looking car. Anybody know anything about these? They were asking $2500.

Thanks.

I really don't know much about them, but I love the way those cars look. I've always been a fan of their looks.

There is one around here that is running Lotus suspension. Its at most of the auto x's. Pretty fun looking car.

http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif all the impulse turbos have the lotus engineered suspension http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
and IIRC 160HP stock from the 1.6L 4 banger turbo..AWD, pretty cool cars..and you can buy them for around 2K today..not bad considering what you are getting http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

They were great cars. Parts may be a giant pain, though.

If you're interested in the AWD Impulse, you've GOT to read this thread. If you can dig through the flame war there's a bit of useful info:

These things are VERY rare.

I've seen one, and a friend took it for a testdrive, but its turbo was in very poor health, if not dead.

100hp/litre is great, especially with AWD.

Parts are going to be hard to get for the drivetrain, but the body and suspension should be shared with the other impulses and possibly the Geo Storm (its cousin).

FYI....The later generation has the same chasis as the Geo Storm. Some good points, some not.

The older, 1980's genre cars were a bit funkier....and cooler IMHO.

I owned one new. It was an excellent car. I traded it in for a larger car - needed it for the new family.

Other than being posted in the WRONG FORUM... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I went to high school with somebody who had a non-turbo, non-awd one. He or she (don't know who owned it) stripped all of the Isuzu badges off and left the Lotus ones on... as if we'd fall for it.

They look like they might be a fun little car.

I went to high school with a guy who owned an Impulse, cool car. His didnt look that great from the outside, but the engine was in great shape. I think that he ended up selling it because of turbo problems though. After he sold it he got an older Z car.

Very cool cars! I see a bunch around here, but I'd be afraid of service costs personally.

Yeah, a guy at Cherokee Trails won his class in a pretty much bone-stock Lotus Edition Impulse. Basically just threw a roll cage in and went.

I still remember Joe Isuzu driving the first generation Isuzu Impulse by racing a bullet he just shot, gets in his car, winks at himself in the vanity mirror, drives around the slalom, passes the bullet, gets out of the car and catches the bullet with his teeth! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

I saw one at an upstate NY Auto-X last year - it was REALLY rough. Never had seen an AWD one before. You see the strangest things at these eventshttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif
