If you can believe this one, my daughter in-laws 2006 Tribeca has acorns in the headliner. She took it back to the dealer and they said it was her problem and they wouldn't help. We were able to lower the headliner a little bit at the rear passenger side door and confirmed that there are acorns in the headliner. Should we take it to a body shop to have them remove the liner? I am fearful of damaging the airbags and not being able to get the liner back in place. What do you think? Thanks. .... Mike

that seems to be the answer of choice for dealers. (not our problem) . i think we should just buy used cars from private owners,and make the dealers suffer for a year or 2 see how much thier attitude changes. dealers blow:mad:

check you insurance you might be able to use it in this case . good luck:)

Man, it sucks the dealer won't help you out though. try contacting SOA on a corporate level and go from there or try another dealership. Obviously, a design flaw caused this so SOMEONE should take liability.

The car has a sunroof so either the nuts were on the sunroof when it was opened (and subsequently fell onto the headliner) or the sunroof was left cracked open and the nuts fell in.

Exactly. Its not subaru of america's fault or a design flaw for nuts being in your roof liner. I'd say they should be willing to remove them and charge you a reasonable fee. Its not a warranty issue some outside elements got into places. Thats like complaining warranty didn't cover a leaking oil pan which began leaking after you drove over a large rock. :rolleyes:

I have found nuts behind the wheel of cars as well as nuts in the air ways to the hvac before. Nuts in the headliner are new to me though. Gonna keep my eye open for that one.

Thanks for your replies. I am not saying it is a warranty issue. We were curious to see if anyone had a similar occurence. My son & daughter in-law have lived in the same residence, with the same oak trees for 5 years with numerous cars with sunroofs and this is the first time they have had "nuts in our roof liner. That does make me think however that this model may have a design flaw.

The main question I guess is, should my son be concerned that the airbags that are inside the roof liner might deploy if a sensor is touched while removing the liner?

Once we get this problem solved we will post photos.

You shouldn't have to worry about the airbags deploying as long as you disconnect the battery a little while before removing the headliner. I personally have never in 20 years of working @ the dealership seen an airbag accidentally set off--so i'm sure you'll be fine.
