so i did a clutch install on my buddies 05 sti, we pulled the motor forward, got the clutch bolted in, i put the throwout bearing onto the transmission spline, reinstalled the fork, mated the engine back onto the tranny, reinstalled the slave cylinder, but than when i pumped the clutch pedal, i had no pressure, i didnt disconnect any of the lines, so i checked under the hood and my slave cylinder shat itself. so im looking at the fork, and trying to replicate wat the slave does, it pushes the fork forward, but theres only about 1/2" of play forward and backwards, does the slave push harder on the fork than a normal person can apply? could i have messed up when installing the throwout bearing or fork? some insight please!

You have to remove the slave to get enough throw on the clutch fork. Then you push the fork back until you feel the t/o bearing engage with the pressure plate.

The throw-out bearing is a pull-type, so you have to use the actuator fork to couple it to the pressure-plate. I just moved mine (in the direction opposite of the direction your slave-cylinder wants to push it) a couple of inches, incountered a bit of resistance and then heard a pop, or snap that told me mine had hooked up.

So see if you can't get the t/o bearing to couple with the pressure-plate first, then fool with the slave cylinder.

And, yes, the slave cylinder pushes harder than you can because it's hydraulic, just like your brakes.
