Hey NASIOC members.

Subaru impreza 93 WRX / STI / RA ( mixed parts ). ej20 td06H05 turbo ( New Zealand version )

Last weekend a few mates and i went for a mission down a gravel road - Drifting.

Hit a bank at about 50km/h and crushed my whole right hand side wheel gaurd in ( fender, scratched front bumper etc ). It also crushed my right hand side indicator, headlight is ok though. When I crashed, the car stalled. Most of the electronics were still running ( lights etc )

I then tried to start it, no go. Almost like no spark or no fuel to the injectors. However a few attempts later it started, ran in the very low revs and then stalled as i attempted to rev it a little.

I have noticed that the fuel pump is not pressurizing at startup ( first ignition stage ), It has a FULL tank of gas :S.

The cable trunking that runs on the drivers side, up along the guard was slightly crushed but i doubt it has anything to do with the problems? The trunking doesn't appear to be cut or damaged. ( Should i open the trunking and see if any of the cables are cut or damaged? ) The indicators on both the front bumper and next to the headlight have been knocked out.... But i doubt that has anything to do with it.

Could the fuses have blown?

Is there any damage sensors within the front bumper of these impreza models which would cut the fuel pump?

I am finding this problem really really weird, i crush the front right hand side fender/gaurd and the fuel pump fails?! :S

My poor rex is a little sad, damage everywhere wish i am trying to fix all in one go.

Any ideas, suggestions would be appreaciated!!!

If you need any specific info, just ask i am happy to provide to get this fixed :)

Cheers,
Logan

You are asking this on a North American board, we did not get that model here. You'd be better off asking this on another board where they are familiar with it.
That said I'm not aware of Subaru using a fuel-pump cutoff on any models. You most likely have damage to the wiring harness and will have to get the service manual and follow the troubleshooting procedures.

this may or may not a apply to your subaru.. i know lots of other vehicles have a safety G sensor on the fuel pump... it may be on the pump itself. best to find a mechanic and quiz him a little to find out.

Argh :(

I really don't have the cash to get a mechanic to look at it.

Doesn't anyone want to help because i crashed a subaru?!

I would appreciate any suggestions :)

Just spent some more time trouble-shooting.

The battery does seem to be a bit low, Could a voltage of under 10V cause the fuel pump to not pressurize the fuel system? I also notice other pumps etc not pressurizing or anything making noises as usaul when i turn the reds on?

Cheers,
Logan

some thing like that happen to my car it was the fuel pump relay on the o2 wrx, it was on the right side of the car in the us model by the door i just clicked it over and it worked

Is the battery under 10V just sitting there or while cranking? You can always try another battery, that should be simple enough.
It's not that we wouldn't like to help you, but there's only so much we can do over the Internet. Someone who knows what they are doing is going to have to look at the car. If you really can't afford a mechanic try posting in your regional forums/boards and maybe someone nearby will be able to come by and take a look. We do that here all the time but you're just a bit too far away.

The battery is currently low, but not so low that its near dead :/ A little hard to explain.

I agree with you on the distance part :P

Is there some type of control unit which powers up essentials at reds such as fuel pump, and other components in the engine bay which are a part of the harness?

I'm gonna jump it tomorow and make sure the battery is right up and near over charged just so i can make sure it isn't the low charge which is causing issues. But ever since the crash/incident it hasn't started. So the crash has caused something to fail/disconnect but finding it is certainly a mission when i know jack all about the nitty gritty details of the electronics of my own car :(

The car turns over fine, but the essentials are not being powered which makes me think that there are issues with the relay :S

Anyone got diagrams of the electrical wiring of the impreza 93 that they could possibly share?

Cheers,
Logan

There should be a relay for the fuel pump that is controlled by the ECU.
Rather than just jump it I'd suggest you remove the battery and get it tested, or just try a known good one. Jumping can potentially cause more damage.
We aren't going to be able to help you with a wiring diagram since we didn't get that model here. Our 93 Impreza was very different and there was no WRX or turbo option. This is why I recommended you try other boards where they will know more about your car.

This impreza is a converted turbo, it was originally a non-turbo setup.

Are there any diagrams out for the impreza 93?

How could have the crash caused the ECU to fry :S
