I was cleaning the car today (removing bird droppings and leaves). So I opened the hood to check for any leaves and as I went for a closer inspection of the engine area I found 2 rust spots (small in diameter less than the size of dimes) in the passenger side cowl area near the passenger side hood attachment point. I was surprized to see them there because this is a brand new car.

My question is do I take the car to the dealer and complain or do I just repair the spots myself with some touch up UGM paint? Any other 07 seen an unlikely area rust on their car?

I would take it back to the dealer and have them take care of it

Is it eating thru the metal, or is it just sitting on the surface?

its not an unlikely area, the water probably pools there after rain and theres probably not alot fo paint there or something. also, its looks like it is just sitting there, so i wouldnt see a problem with you just sanding it off and touchup painting it.

my '04 doesnt have any spots there either... but meh, completely different car ^^

I decided to do it myself because the surface rust was a very small area. Also the touch up area is only visible if I open the hood and point it out. The dealership might have probably taken 2 days or more to do something that took me 1 hour. Thank you everyone for your advice!

nxttruck2002 if I were in your position I would go over the repainted area very carefully and compare it against the rest of the car. I hope your trunk gets repainted right because the details are very important for a limited edition car!!

You couldn't have said it any better. I will not accept anything that looks out of place!!
