I got an Omori electronic boost gauge to replace my stock factory gauge. But I'm having a problem with the wiring.

What I originally did was tap off my remote wire for my amp for the ACC power to the gauge (It is the ACC power from the radio) and for the illumination I tapped off the yellow wire that went to the factory gauge. Ground went to the factory gauge ground....

The gauge would not light up, and when I played with the dimmer in the car, the gauge needle would go up and down... But if I blew into the gauges pressure transducer, the needle would go up a little....

SO I switched the ACC and Illum wires, and the gauge lights up now fine, it even dims with the dimmer, but the needle does not move, it stays at full vacuum....

Are the gauges themselves wired improperly?

(FWIW I'm installing an Omori EGT gauge as well, and it is doing the same thing)

:(

So um, now driving home from work tonight I was fiddling with them some more...

And when I dim the interior lights all the way down, the boost gauge dims all the way down, but the EGT goes about half way dim, and then the needle mysteriously rises up to the max

There are only 3 wires, how could I have screwed this up?

You can't use the illumination wire from those gauges with the Subaru dimming circuit. The polarity is wrong, Subaru uses a fixed positive/variable negative and your gauges need the opposite. Either connect the gauge illumination to the parking light circuit (you won't have any dimming but they will light up and work properly) or add a circuit to flip the polarity so the dimming can work.

oh crazy, I'll give that a shot. Thanks so much! I really don't care if they dim, I'd just leave them on the brightest anyways.

Thanks again!

yea the factory gauge use's a connector that runs in the harness behind the radio. When i pulled my factory gauge i just cut the wires, but then pulled the radio and took the connector. All the wires you need are on the clock circuit

Well, I pulled what I needed from the clock, and the gauges work perfectly now! :D Thanks again guys!

The biggest surprise was that the wire plug on the clock actually has the wires labelled  I would've never expected something to be so easy!

i have a 07 wrx and i bought a omori boost gauge, i was just curious what wires you used? i think the easiest wires will be the ones for the cig lighter, but if anyone can tell me what color wires on 07 someone used from the clock or whatever?? i know you say they are labled what do they say? or what to look for that would be great..any help appreciated...

The clock is really the easiest one to grab - just yank it out of the dash - on the 02-05 Impreza, the pins are labelled on the back of the gauge (you want ACC for the switched +12V, any ground will work for ground, and for the illumination circuit you want the one which is constant +12V (not the variable one) - it's violet, iirc

any chance those same wires would work for a cyberdyne temp gauge, im thinkin of adding a temp gauge and sensor after my intercooler to check to see what the co2 really does...otherwise i dont know what other gauge i want. omori is dissapointing that no one sells the air temp or ambient air temp, and jspec is not replying to my emails, same with other vendors that sell omori and same with omori direct..no response..so i might buy that cyberdyne from summit racing...its only a short drive away..

All,

Helping a buddy install his boost gauge and we currently have it wired to his fog light switch which apparently offers no dimming capability. Saw from this thread that it's recommended to wire into the clock on the dash. Which wire exactly should we tap into? Someone mentioned a violet one, but can someone verify?

Thanks!

I can't remember, and I'm out of town otherwise I'd check my car for you. I just remember that the wires coming out of the clock were clearly labeled positive and negative.
