hello alll... i've been doing some thinking about upgrading my clutch/flywheel on my 06 wrx but don't really know if there really is a need to yet. i'm only at 296whp and 300wtq so when should i ditch the stocker and get an upgraded clutch and flywheel? and also which one to get ?????

i think that as long as i don't rev to 6500rpm and dump the clutch every time i'm at a stop light i should make it last pretty long time...but what about when it's time to abuse the clutch ????????

Just learn how to not to burn your clutch. slip it then drop. if you slip too much then it just goes crazy and burns to hell. you will know when your clutch is cashed man. It won't hold mid rpm power and will slip. When you do end up buying a clutch I would stay away from the carbon clutch. It is really for racing and not great for street. teh Tilton twin disc cerametallic/organic is really the best of both worlds from what I understand. organic for street and cerametallic for big powerrrr. so the organic starts to get really hot as the ceramet gets to temp.

but a superlight flywheel will not make your stock tranny a happy camper

dang one of my buddies was talking big game about a lighter flywheel too.. haha...i'll have to start checking it out.. so when this bad boy does go i know which one i'm going to get and where i'm going to get it from.. i'll probably end up at dynocomp seeing what they got for me.. thank you guys you are being a HUGE help :banana: :banana:

Yeah, a lighter flywheel not necessary, it can make launching a bit more difficult if you like to drag. But it is less rotating mass and will increase response. I think most clutches come with a lighter flywheel in the 16-18lb. range. Factory should be around 25-27 lbs.. I have a tilton twin ceramitallic and it is overkill. The twin organic was real smooth. But the pricing on those is retarded. I have only experience with one other clutch, the exedy single. Held up to plent of drag passes at power levels in your range. Chattered a bit, but was cheap. I would look at something a step up from that though, just to be safe.;)

PM James@RPM. He ran his stock clutch till about 90k or so while running 12.3's. Now he has a Twin Plate and i think a lightened flywheel. not sure.

Last time I checked there was no clutch upgrade for the TR, very soon though.
We have seen light flywheels cause misfires through out the rpm range. no real performance gain.

If stock works then use it. clutches can be your biggest mistake. so know what your doing and don't get burned. Can't go wrong with Richard's shop or forced performance is one I hear about now and then. both of those shops know what they are doing and they wont take your money and run away like excited school girls that are big in to drifting.

i had a defecitive clutch when i first bought the car didn't even push it hard at all and it ended up just shredding and they didn't want to cover it under warranty because i had a CAI on my car they told me it voided the warranty... that was at sorry ass Camelback Subaru....anyways..so far it seems leaving it stock will hold up for a while and afterwards i'm going with either a tilton or a exedy twin

i woulda told them to prove it was lead to the clutch failure.

oh yeah, i was like dude the car has 200 miles on it and the clutch is done? I dont care who you are that's obviously a damn manufacturer's problem 200 miles and the clutch is gone ?? come on now ..after like a week of arguing and raising hell and mentioning that military personnel have free lawyers they were more then happy to install a new one!!!!
