She wanted to go take on a full grown male mastiff that was loose in the neighborhood yesterday. By take on, I mean probably go roll around and make friends with him. I took the intellectual tack and draggerd her back inside like the scared chicken I am.
jpicheva 12-05-2006, 05:42 PM Aww... :) I like Jack Russels.
Cute dog -- be careful though -- they are tenacious little buggers and love to chew.
True story:
A co-worker of my sister bought 2 jack russell terriers - he kept them in the kitchen of his townhome when he was at work. One day he arrived home to see the little guys playing outside in the yard - WTF?!?
Turns out - they got bored in the kitchen - got into the adjoining utility closet - chewed through the drywall - pushed through the insulation and attacked the edges of a piece of exterior hardiplank and emerged (OMGfree! ) on the other side.

Oh, she did manage to get the latch open yesterday somehow, and made vermicelli out of some speaker wire......but I guess I probably didn't latch it all the way over.
jpicheva 12-05-2006, 05:48 PM http://www.mightypets.com/Precision-Pets/Crates/Crates-ProValu-Crate.jpg

Nope. A Parson Jack Russell is a little bigger and longer legged and has rougher hair, usually all white or ery dominantly white. The Frasier Dog is called an English Jack Russell Terrier.
imprezton 12-05-2006, 06:21 PM So ... whose body were you burying in the abandoned quarry?
here in las vegas, we call that landscaping.

That's aParson Jack Russell Terrier.
Coati 12-05-2006, 06:23 PM here in las vegas, we call that landscaping.
My back yard looked very similar to that when I bought my house 8 years ago (only the rocks were bigger and rounder).
My HOA didn't seem to think it was "landscaping" and sent me nastygrams about it when I didn't touch it for a year.
Sharkbait 12-05-2006, 06:26 PM Whatever!!

The distinction was made to separate what had evolved into a show/lapdog (The English) and the working foxhunter (The Parson).

 It's Jessie. I dunno, that's the name my wife wanted, and it's HER XMas present.
Toni Romo DOES have a nice ring to it, though!
let her call the dog whatever she wants, but what's stopping you from callign it toni romo?

Ummm, consistency for the puppy's sake?
Besides, Tony hasn't proven himself to me yet. He's no Staubach!
Ummm, consistency for the puppy's sake?
i thought these pooches were supposed to be smart?
imprezton 12-05-2006, 07:06 PM i thought these pooches were supposed to be smart?
They are! That's why I want to wait until she's two years old. By then, we'll know whether Romo is the real deal. If I name her now and he flops, the dog will spend the rest of her life making fun of me.

Only the AKC has changed the name. AKC dogs are now known as Parson Russel Terriers. They also changed the breed standard.
Jack Russel Terriers are still alive by dedicated breeders that are keeping true to the original breed standard.

Nice JRT BTW. They are my favorite breed. When my kids are much older I will be getting one.

oh right. that's a good plan.
see kids, age does have its advantages.

The ACA still recognizes the show breed of JRT.
There is some controversy as to what Russell's breed standard was, with the AKC siding with what we now call Parsons.

PS that's a terrific site. Thanks!

Not really, Ty might not make it another two years.
:p
Jellogirl 12-05-2006, 07:30 PM *shrug* The JRTCA is the worlds largest Jack Russell Terrier club and registry in the world. Their standards have not been in question, nor have they changed.
The ACA and the AKC are show dog registries . The JRTCA is the registry of true working JRTs.
If your wife is interested in talking with others that love not just JRTs but terriers in general I'd suggest applying to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WhollyTerriers/
They are an amazing group. I used to be a member but left when I had to rehome my JRT.
imprezton 12-05-2006, 08:28 PM I had to rehome my JRT.
:(...
Jellogirl 12-05-2006, 08:51 PM :(...
Ya that about sums it up...but she ended at a wonderful home with a Lady that had 2 other JRTs and is very very active, outdoors 90% of the time.
But JRTs and apartment living just don't mix and unfortunately we had to move and the only place we could find that we could afford is a no pets place.
At least I get my Rotti back when we find a house. She ended up staying with family, but she isn't inclined to run away and need 24/7 supervision like my JRT does. Plus none of my friends or family are the right kind of people to have a JRT....it takes a special kinda person to have one.

02WHITEDUB 12-05-2006, 10:18 PM True story:
A friend of mine, "Angie", well her Mom went to the States to work for about a year. While down there she had an affair and got pregnant.
Upon return, she comes clean (how could she not?) and her husband decides they'll raise the child together. The Father of this child is out of the picture.
Funny thing is...the baby's father had some really dark skin so the baby has fairly dark skin too. Mommy and adoptive Daddy are bleached white.
It's been about 5 years since that and they're still together.:)
