View Full Version : the ej20 is back w a time slip!!!
hectowrx 12-08-2006, 08:11 AM Hi guys we have finally the dyno plot and the time slip on hand but dont know how to post it ???
anyways the car in question is my wrx 2003 w a fully built ej20 usdm w stock heads and cams tuned by gadiel and with a custom set up of a rotated gt35r
last 12/01/06 we went to the track , and with vp 116 and 26psi boost we ran as follows:
Reaction-------------.792
60 FT ---------------1.713
1/8 ET --------------7.213
1/8 MPH ------------99.75
1/4 ET --------------11.234
1/4 MPH-------------124.21
this info is only to share w some of you guys the oucome of my car is not to create controversy , i belive so as Gadiel that the car can go 10's if we push it harder on the 60 feet area , and we need to fine tune some more because on 5 th gear its holding up , its a 6speed by the way with stock rear axles , thats why we are holding a bit on the launch...
thanks for your coments , special thanks again to my buddy and tuner Gadiel
out from Puerto Rico
wrxfactor 12-08-2006, 12:27 PM PPG 5 speed and you'll hit 10's.
V6TurboTA 12-08-2006, 01:24 PM What turbo?

Well done as usual.
SuperSTI 12-08-2006, 01:25 PM nice job. i agree. PPG FTW
dug-e-fresh 12-08-2006, 02:54 PM Defeinitely PPG for the win...
Nice run... but a quick question, why no headwork?
def
I guess i missed that. and you are still an ass. I thought you left these forums.

 You dont miss much do you?... :disco:
wagonmasta 12-08-2006, 04:18 PM what internals you runnin in the scary open deck?
Need the dyno graph!!
To post them, once their scanned in, have a place like zoints host the images, and then post the url's from zoints. ^_^
hectowrx 12-08-2006, 09:02 PM its a gt35r , the internals are crower rods and je piston (standard compresion ratio), no head work or cams (reason)??? money my friend need more!!! je,je,je
ppe gears ??? its true with the ratio they provide deffinetly , but i spended so much money on the 6mt swap , i wont even bother to go that route
zoints whats that? feel me in bro. im not a computer wizz!!!! but why im not able to do it here??? some people are able to do it???
hectowrx 12-08-2006, 09:06 PM holly **** doug-e -fresh your traps are impressive , that is what i want to hit , tel me more about your ride !!!

dug-e-fresh has a semi-closed deck EJ207, the stock JDM STi block with 8k redline. It's built to handle a lot more than our USDM EJ205.

But its stock ;)
hectowrx-
my basic set-up is a stock EJ207 w/SZ49 turbo (stock location, same as an FP Green), tial 38mm gate, UTEC and PPG dogbox... and the various NEEDED upgrades (fuel, exhuast, fmic etc..) The longblock was completely stock... from manifold to maniold.
It had more in it... only pulled a 1.783 sixty foot on that run and I was shifting her at 7500 (had major misfires 7600+). Usually I revved to 8200 or so.

disque71 12-08-2006, 10:42 PM how is it that everything gadiel touchs goes really fast...
bubba03wrx 12-08-2006, 11:20 PM cus he knows what hes doing.
PolarisSnT 12-09-2006, 12:00 AM My first time at the track I was put up against a 1.8l Audi running a GT35r and he ran an 11.2 at 124mph. I was always wondering why other smaller displacement engines are using these turbos and not the Subaru camp. It obviously makes a killer drag setup.
Nice job.

Does he ever travel outside of the PR to tune?
BABSTI 12-10-2006, 03:14 AM I am sure if you buy his plane ticket he will.
wrxskier18 12-10-2006, 02:15 PM Does he ever travel outside of the PR to tune?
I know he came to tune some cars somewhere in MAIC over the summer
Paintballguy 12-10-2006, 07:34 PM I know he came to tune some cars somewhere in MAIC over the summer
yea he was up at Agile Automotive.
I was going to get him to tune mine but I couldnt get the turbo in time.
hectowrx 12-10-2006, 10:19 PM def ...how much hp you got on that set up ??? i used to have a similar set up , but w same engine (built 2.0lts usdm) and a green turbo, i had on that time 462whp, with the 5 speed sti ra gears and w an excedy clutch , we went to the track and the clutch gave up , I procceded to replace it with an act organic kit , and when we hit the track the 5 speed ra sti blew up 2nd gear , so i never had the chance to know , how fast could the car ran whith that gear ratio and that less weight??? I think traps should be higher
hectowrx 12-10-2006, 10:26 PM yes gadiel travels to tune cars , he has been in the states , caribbean , and also if im not mistaken in south america...

cool... i was looking for one of those engines when everybody stated that the open deck didnt hold up much power "boy those people are wrong " its all in the tuning and parts and build up .
i think this engine breath better due to better cams and heads , or they are equal ??? i wish i had that red line!!! that motor is impressive from what ive heard

It dynoed 452 whp on a Dynapack using C16 and running 28-29 psi. The gearing of my PPG box is very similar to RA geating (1st is identical).
I've had my fair share of clutch issues. I blew up a Spec Stage 3, then blew up a Spec Stage 3+. I've run stock discs with upgraded plate... that held into the 11s and then went Kaplooey one night.
I then installed a used RPS 6 puck with an ACT pressure plate (WRX components) and thats what went 11.2. Since then, I have installed an STi clutch set-up (more clamp and bigger disc, 240mm vs 230mm). This is an ACT unsprung 6-puck with an STi flywheel. It felt good, but I never got a chance to run it... Come March when out track HOPEFULLY opens again, I should come out better than ever.... we will see.
I wish our tracks were open as much... oh well... as much as I like the warmer climates, I like the snow we get... Christmas aint Christmas unless its cold ;)
Based on you're 8th mile trap, I'd agree... you should be trapping abit more up top. With my 127.7 trap, I only trapped 97 in the 8th... trapping nearly 100 is awesome, but you'd expect to see the 1/4 trap somewhere higher in the 120s, 125-129 or so.

The heads and cams are better... about as good as your gonna get from factory Subaru. This biggest help IMO though is the redline... neither the RA gears of the PPG gears would work AS well on a 2.0 without revving them farther out.
The block will be fine as long as the pistons and rods hold up... people worry too much about open-deck vs semi vs closed. The 2.0 cylinder walls on the open deck are a good bit thicker than the 2.5 with a semi-closed deck. I'll take thickness over 2 little pieces of aluminum (that makes it semi-closed) any day. Every little bit helps... but still...

There's a thread in the 2.5L forums with pictures of the cylinder walls showing the differences in the sleeve thickness, I'll try and dig it up.
Here's a post similar to what I was looking for, can't find the exact thing. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9186325&postcount=12

That's awesome. If we could get our turbos a little closer to the exhaust ports, maybe we'd be in business. There are inline 4s (see 4g63) running mid to high 11's on 18g's and 20g's. Must be nice. Gotta love the boxer though....
James@RPM 12-11-2006, 08:18 PM what internals you runnin in the scary open deck?
I beleive this is a semi closed deck and not usdm.
hectowrx 12-12-2006, 11:25 AM james@rpm no im running an usdm 2.0lts fully built by me , actually is the same motor that the car got out from the dealer when i bought my wrx back in 2003, too bad i cant say that about the tranny.
tyranosaurusWRX hi, you are right on if we could get our turbos closer to the ports we be in bussines, my brother has a rsx type -s turbo w a full race manifold and the same turbo and he is as well 2.olts and he is putting out 621whp at the same psi as i am runing 508whp, we agree in your line of thinking
last but not least the 2.olts usdm is tough if you build it right an tune it to perfection like doug said th walls on the ej20 usm are thick ill take that over the two supports on the sti ,im not saying the ej20 is better and that ill make more power out of it then on a 2.5 , because theres no replacement for displacement , but all im saying is that people abbandon the 2.0 lts because there was a new boy in town the 2.5
