Press Release:

Chevrolet Announces Pricing For HHR Panel

Segment-exclusive model delivers unmatched functionality for less than $17,000

DETROIT – Chevrolet announced today that pricing for the new, segment-exclusive HHR Panel will begin at $16,750 (including destination) for a well-equipped LS model. Orders for the HHR Panel will begin in early January.

“Priced at only $200 more than an HHR passenger model, the HHR Panel demonstrates tremendous value to business customers,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. “The HHR Panel is a model unlike anything else in the segment, offering commercial customers and expressive enthusiasts a bold, functional and different vehicle – and one that delivers more than 30 mpg on the highway.”

The HHR Panel features windowless side panels and rear cargo doors in place of conventional rear doors. A flat load floor provides more than 57 cubic feet (1,614 L) of cargo space, along with approximately 5 cubic feet (141 L) of additional covered, under-floor storage. Inside, the HHR Panel has seating for two and a large, flat cargo floor. Tie-down points are located strategically on the floor.

The LS model comes with a fuel-efficient 2.2L engine rated at 149 horsepower (111 kW). The LT model is equipped with a 2.4L engine rated at 175 horsepower (130 kW). With either engine, the HHR is rated at 30 mph in highway driving and can provide up to 450 miles of cruising range on a tank of gas.

Power front seats, a family of radios with MP3 capability and OnStar are available on LS and LT models. LT models also offer XM Satellite Radio, 17-inch wheels and leather-appointed seating. There is also a rear power plug connector with available 40-amp service, for a variety of specialty equipment needs. This feature answers the call of upfitters, who asked for an additional power source to suit their specialty vehicles.

OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation is available on the HHR Panel, enhancing its value as a courier or delivery-type vehicle. OnStar Turn-by-Turn provides verbal instructions to assist the driver with right- and left-hand turn directions; and it establishes a new route if the driver needs to get back on track; for example, if a freeway exit is missed.

Chevrolet is America's No. 1-selling automotive brand. With the largest dealer network in the United States , Chevy is the leader in full-size trucks and the leader in sales of vehicles priced $35,000 and above. Chevrolet delivers more-than-expected value in every vehicle category, offering cars and trucks priced from $9,995 to $78,175. Chevy delivers expressive design, spirited performance and great value with standard features usually found only on more expensive vehicles.

They will sell more of these than any model of Subaru... sad but true.

Bingo, a perfect option to say a Ford Econo van that gets like 12mpg.

For that smaller market of people who need something bigger and more durable then a wagon but smaller then a full size van. This thing will take off on fleet sales you watch.

Drove an HHR yesterday as a loaner... worst interior ever!

Makes perfect sense for smaller deliveries. I rather be stuck behind one of them, than a full-size Econovan, that's for damn sure.

For a company that wants to attract attention, I can definitely see this car getting used a lot and having those full-car graphics wrapped applied to it.

While I'm no HHR fan (or PT "Loser Cruiser") fan, it's a neat little niche they're serving. I'd rather see businesses use fuel-efficient vehicles like this as opposed to full-size vans.

The Impreza wagon has more rear cargo space with the seats folded down. I really can't see this taking off except the tiny market where people use minivans as delivery vehicles. Maybe they can sell it to the postal service. Other than that, I can see it being a stinker.

yeah businesses are gonna start buying impreza wagons as delivery vehicles. wakeup.....this is gonna be hit for fleet sales GUARANTEED. the blind domestic hate around this forum is uncalled for.

I agree. The Forester or Impreza or whatever will never get into that price bracket, will never be sold in enough numbers to justify fleet deals, and will not garner the interest of Joe Average.

I think this is one of the better ideas GM has had for a while. You already see people converting Scion xB (or Yarii, *cough*) to fill this role, so it's great that Chevy's providing it as an option right off the bat.

There's no domestic hate. Its a small wagon based on an economy car frame. I never said they would buy Subarus instead, I just quoted that because I know my WRX wagon is pretty small and this is smaller.

There are very few buisnesses out there that need small vehicles like this. Maybe a florist, or a takeout place as a delivery vehicle. I can't think of too many other companies that carry only small amounts of small things. Anyone else is going to want a FS van "just in case."

I dunno, I'd figure hospitals, couriers, county and state offices, florists, all kinds of places could use these. A really busy florist here uses Honda Elements (which I know is way bigger and different than the HHR) as does a major nursery, which also uses Kias. Just goes to show that people are starting to look past large vehicles for utility/work/business. The panel part will help a lot. Its easier to use/load a car that you can slam stuff up against the wall of instead of baby it to not break the window.

^ +1. "“Priced at only $200 more than an HHR passenger model, the HHR Panel demonstrates tremendous value to business customers,”"
wtf?? Why not just get a regular HHR and take out the rear seats + plastic trim?? And you'll get better visibility since the reg one has side glass.
wtf why does it still have rear doors??
it's not like you can't reach there from the back...

Because, if it was and intelligent pricing scheme, it wouldn't be GM.

BigFatGeek

Because they probably can - it's a niche vehicle with virtually no competition. I think it'll probably do quite well.

^ missed that... still I rather save $200 and get a leftover reg HHR from the lot and just screw in some wood paneling or something on the inside.
I'm sure they won't have too many of these in stock compared to regular HHRs.

It still should be less; autoglass is not cheap, and sealing it in alone has got to be way more expensive than the total metal and plastic material used. Not to mention they probably punch it out of the same size of sheet, window or not.

It's typical
