I finally put it in today (the shifter I had welded at Red Star cause my '95 has different linkage than the 98+ and I cant use those short shifters)
It works! Its stiff and short though, probably more than I wanted... But it makes the car MUCH easier to drive! *snick* instead of *throw* :p Feels alot like a Kartboy
Anyway, I went through a huge hassle getitng it in... Aparently, in our linkage, theres a little cup that holds the shifter ball, and in that cup is a metallic ring that holds down the plastic piece where the ball rests. I didnt know about that, and tried for an hour to pop it out like everyone insisted is how its done on the new linkage! :eek:
I ended up taking out the whole linkage trying to get the damn thing out (with the help of Stankfootz and my cousin) Getting VERY dirty in the process (which I wasnt planning on as I had plans after doing this).
We tried and tried and tried to pop it out, but that stupid retainer ring, ARGGGGGGGGGGGG! :mad: Anyway, I had to take of a metal piece that held down the rubber that our cars have cause the shifter lever is much higher now in angle and that metal piece got in the way (it didnt do anything other than hold downt he rubber, so Im holding downt he rubber with washers with the screws that hold it down instead). I also discovered unique things about my linkage that I didnt know before that I cant really discuss cause its hard to discribe :p
Anyway, it works, and its good, and I wanted to tell everyone with old-school Impreza's that it CAN be done, and with little mechanical skill :p
